Fans were in utter disbelief when it was revealed earlier this month that Miley Cyrus and her longtime beau and husband of nearly eight months, Liam Hemsworth, had decided to call it quits.

Per Entertainment Tonight, a representative for the couple said: "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."

News of the separation was soon followed by intimate photos of the 26-year-old singer kissing reality star Kaitlynn Carter, who had recently split with Brody Jenner, while on vacation in Italy.

We were given little indication as to what had prompted the unexpected split, so many of us jumped to the conclusion that it may have had a little something to do with Miley's fling with Kaitlynn. Or perhaps an entirely different lover altogether - basically a lot of us assumed that the marriage had ended due to cheating.

Miley Cyrus was having the time of her life during her recent Italian getaway:

In order to put these rumours to bed, the former Disney star took to Twitter to tell her side of the story in a series of 11 tweets.

The first of which began:

"I can accept that the life I’ve chosen means I must live completely open and transparent with my fans who I love, and the public, 100% of the time. What I cannot accept is being told I’m lying to cover up a crime I haven’t committed. I have nothing to hide."

Miley then delves into her reputation for partying and experimenting with various drugs. She also recalls losing out on a major merchandising deal as a result of her wild behaviour. Furthermore, she admits to making mistakes in her personal life, which included cheating in past relationships.

The Black Mirror star goes into further detail about her often frowned upon behaviour in the public eye, recounting a time she was fired from animated movie Hotel Transylvania for buying Liam a ''penis cake'' for his birthday and licking said cake.

After detailing all her past mistakes, Miley very emphatically states that once she and Liam reconciled, she was "committed".

"There are NO secrets to uncover here," she insists. "I’ve learned from every experience in my life. I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP."

She then adds that while she can "admit to a lot of things", she refuses to admit that her marriage "ended because of cheating".

"Liam and I have been together for a decade," she continues. "I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will."

Over the weekend, it was revealed that the near eight-month marriage between Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus could soon be coming to an end, after a representative for the couple announced that the pair had separated.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the representative for the couple said: "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."

The news came just hours after Miley was spotted kissing and embracing Brody Jenner's ex, Kaitlynn Carter, while on vacation in Lake Como:

Despite the heartbreak many of the couple's fans are feeling right now, Miley has been very outspoken on social media, posting pictures and videos of her time in Italy.

In all honesty, the breakup doesn't seem to be getting the singer down:

Outraged by this seemingly-flippant remark, Cyrus replied to the comment on Instagram, telling Brody to "Go take a nap in your truck and cool off."

However, throughout all of this, Liam has remained silent - until now.

Taking to Instagram for the first time since the news was revealed, Hemsworth posted a picture of a sunset, along with the caption:

"Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love."

The snap was inundated with supportive comments from fellow celebs and fans alike, with boxer Ryan Garcia typing: "You’re a champ brother!"

Last month, Miley told Elle that she shared a "modern" marriage to Hemsworth:

"I think it's very confusing to people that I'm married. But my relationship is unique. And I don't know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it's so complex, and modern, and new that I don't think we're in a place where people would get it."

It would seem like we're just not allowed to have nice things...

After seven months of marriage, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have separated, stating that they are taking time away from each other to focus on their individual careers.

Carter and Jenner have also recently announced that they have decided to "amicably separate" after reportedly tying the knot in Bali in June 2018 - however, a source close to the pair told Entertainment Tonight that the two were never legally married.

The pair have shared plenty of pictures and videos whilst on their Italian vacation (Miley's sister, Brandi, is also with them.

Miley and Liam quietly married back in December of last year, in a small ceremony with their family and close friends.

A source close to the couple told Entertainment Tonight: "They did some quick pre-planning before the holiday and decided that they didn’t want a big elaborate wedding. They just wanted the people most important in their lives present."

This isn't the first time the on/off couple have split, so you never know what the future holds for the young stars...

While it seems that the younger generation of celebs are all transitioning into the stage of their lives where they're getting engaged and having babies (I'm looking at you Kylie Jenner, Ariana Grande/Pete Davidson and Justin Bieber/Hailey Baldwin), it seems others aren't feeling the pressure to jump ahead to new life stages like their peers.

I'm talking about Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus, who've been a long-time dream couple with a tumultuous relationship history.

They've had a wild ride, falling in love on the set of The Last Song just over eight years ago before they started going out. Soon after, the young lovebirds announced their engagement, broke up, got back together and got engaged again. It's been on-and-off for ages now, but recent rumours have sparked up to say that things are over for good.

It started a few days ago when the singer-slash-actor who was formerly better known as Hannah Montana went and wiped her whole Instagram account. Like, everything is gone.

People speculated that 25-year-old Miley archived all of her pics because A) she was about to drop a whole lotta music and do a swishy kind of promotional strategy for it like Taylor Swift did. Or B) she and Liam broke up.

Of course, people thought the second option was a juicier topic to gossip about, so the tabloids went wild with accusations saying that the Hunger Games actor, 28, and Miley had called it quits for good.

Next minute, some "sources" told OK! Australia that it was because Miley wasn't ready to be a mum. This source claimed that the Australian actor was "left heartbroken" because "Miley put off plans for the wedding and Liam was growing tired of it. They haven't been getting along in recent months."

"He wants kids and doesn't want to keep putting it off but it's not quite the timeline Miley had in mind," they said.

However, all this turned out be a load of garbage, if Liam's recent Instagram activity is anything to go by. The couple debunked the rumours in the best way possible by Liam posting a video of the two of them goofing around in the car together.

He's driving, and Miley's filming them both singing along and bopping to a tune. All of a sudden, Liam yells as if something's on the road to give Miley a little fright. (Side note: drive carefully guys and don't try this trick at home).

Well, it looks as if things are as good as ever between Miley and Liam. Even though they don't seem to be acting on their engagement very fast – especially compared to the pace of the recent celebrity couples who are getting engaged mere weeks after officially hooking up – it seems all is well in the Cyrus-Hemsworth household.

This weekend, fans of singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus were left stunned by the news that her and her spouse, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, had decided to split after just eight months of marriage.

The couple first met back in 2009, on the set of the musical rom-com The Last Song. The movie, based on the bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks, tells the story of a rebellious teenage girl (Cyrus) who reconnects with her estranged father and falls in love with a handsome beach volleyball player (Hemsworth).

In a breathtaking example of taking method acting too far, Cyrus and Hemsworth hooked up during filming, and were embroiled in an on-again/off-again relationship for some time. They got engaged in June 2012, split for a period, and eventually tied the knot in an extremely secret ceremony in December of 2018.

However, this week the couple decided to break up, allegedly after Miley was caught kissing actress, Kaitlynn Carter, while on holiday in Italy.

Plenty of fans have reacted with dismay to the news. But in the wake of the breakup, a number of fans have noticed that President Donald Trump himself appears to have taken an interest in the couple when they previously split.

Indeed, fans have unearthed a number of tweets that show Trump actively supporting the Wrecking Ball singer. For example, on September 19, 2013, Trump wrote: "@MileyCyrus – don’t worry about Liam. You can do much better and you have plenty of time—remain strong! [sic]"

He also commented on her moral character as well, writing on September 21, 2013: "An important part of my (or anybody's) success is the ability to judge people. I believe that @MileyCyrus is a really good person. [sic]"

Strangely enough, Miley herself seems to have mixed opinions regarding the Republican leader. Indeed, after Trump's victory in the 2016 Presidential Election, Cyrus posted a vlog on Twitter, sharing her feelings and misgivings about Trump as a leader.

The President has not yet commented on the couple's most recent breakup, but knowing him, I have a feeling he has some strong opinions on the matter...
