After seven months of marriage, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have separated, stating that they are taking time away from each other to focus on their individual careers.

Per Entertainment Tonight, a representative for the couple said: "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."

The news comes just days after Miley, 26, was spotted sharing a kiss with Brody Jenner's ex, Kaitlynn Carter, while on vacation in Lake Como:

Carter and Jenner have also recently announced that they have decided to "amicably separate" after reportedly tying the knot in Bali in June 2018 - however, a source close to the pair told Entertainment Tonight that the two were never legally married.

The pair have shared plenty of pictures and videos whilst on their Italian vacation (Miley's sister, Brandi, is also with them.

Miley shows no sign of heartache in this sizzling video:

But in a series of Instagram posts, Miley's followers also noticed that the singer was no longer wearing her wedding ring.

Instagram user lizrn2np was quick to comment: "Where is her wedding ring?"

Other comments either showed support and compassion for Cyrus or attacked her following the news of her breakup:

Instagrammer 5ivefoot2wo commented: "Pushed that man away again huh? You don’t deserve him".

Whereas a more supportive andielynnn said: "Damn your relationship gave me a lot of hope that people can come back together after year. [Still] sending you my love though and hope for the best for both of you. [sic]"

Miley and Liam quietly married back in December of last year, in a small ceremony with their family and close friends.

A source close to the couple told Entertainment Tonight: "They did some quick pre-planning before the holiday and decided that they didn’t want a big elaborate wedding. They just wanted the people most important in their lives present."

Last month, Miley told Elle that she shared a "modern" marriage to Hemsworth:

"I think it's very confusing to people that I'm married. But my relationship is unique. And I don't know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it's so complex, and modern, and new that I don't think we're in a place where people would get it." 

This isn't the first time the on/off couple have split, so you never know what the future holds for the young stars...
