These days, you can't go two seconds without one celeb or another Tweeting, Instagramming, Snapchatting, or whatever else. But, despite what you might think, not every A-lister is present on social media. One of the few missing in action? Jennifer Lawrence, of course!
The Hollywood actress has always kept her distance from social platforms, a far cry like from the likes of Kanye West and Ryan Reynolds, you might say. However, it recently came to light that the Joy star might not have been as far away from it all as we initially thought.
In a new interview, the Academy Award winner revealed that, while you won't be finding an official page that's run by her any time soon, she is, in fact, on social media. Reportedly, the Red Sparrow actress is a lurker on different channels who checks out what's going on, yet refrains from actively contributing. Who'd have thought? J-Law has been with us all this time.
Speaking with InStyle, the 28-year-old described herself as a "voyeur", stating: "I’m on it. But I’m a voyeur: I watch, I don’t speak. There is always so much backlash. So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything. I really don’t want to welcome that unless it’s absolutely necessary."
She continued: "I don’t want to put myself out there for no reason. Unless I’m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won’t hear from me."
Pretty sneaky, right? With all of the negative effects that social media is said to have on your health and happiness though, you have to respect her for maintaining a minimal presence.
With this announcement, the young actress has certainly changed her tune from years before, when she insisted she would never get social media. Back in 2014, the blonde told BBC Radio 1’s old host Nick Grimshaw that the idea was "unthinkable" to her, saying: "I will never get Twitter. I'm not very good on phone or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me."
She continued: "I don't really understand what it is. It's like this weird enigma that people talk about. It's fine, I respect that, but no, I'll never get a Twitter. If you ever see a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter that says it's me, it most certainly is not."
When the Radio 1 host noted how serious Lawrence became with her answer, she admitted that she had her reasons for staying away, claiming the internet has burned her one too many times.
"I had that one locked and loaded," she told Grimshaw, with a laugh. "I really like laser focused [on that answer]... it's because the internet has scorned me so much that I feel like it's that girl in high school that I'm like, 'Oh, you want to talk about her? Yeah I'll do that!' Take my hoops off, I'm ready to go."
So, on your marks, get set, go! The frantic search for Jennifer Lawrence on social media begins now.
