Johnny Depp has reportedly made history after signing the biggest fragrance deal ever.

It has been nearly a year since the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star won his highly-publicized legal battle against ex-wife Amber Heard.

The trial stemmed from defamatory comments Heard had made about Depp in an op-ed she penned for The Washington Post in 2018 that had falsely painted him as an abusive partner. As a result, many details of the couple's tumultuous relationship were shared with the court and the world, but it was Depp who ultimately emerged victorious.

After the jury awarded Depp $15 million in damages, the actor has been enjoying a relatively quiet life since - playing with his band and enjoying living in the English countryside.

However, it has now been reported that Depp has secured a historic payday - with Variety reporting that Depp has signed a three-year deal to be the face of Dior's Sauvage men's fragrance -- to the sum of $20 million. If true, this would make the sponsorship the most lucrative men's fragrance deal ever.

Putting this figure into perspective, Variety states that Depp's payment overshadows Robert Pattinson's $12 million deal to be the spokesperson for Dior Homme and it's nearly three times more than Brad Pitt's $7 million deal to be the face of Chanel No. 5.

Depp has served as the face of the fragrance since 2015, and signed a new contract with Dior back in August last year.

Although many would believe that Depp's legal battles over the last five years would only serve as a PR nightmare for brands, Dior has stood firmly by the Edward Scissorhands star.

For example, despite Depp losing his UK libel case against The Sun after he was branded a "woman beater" by the publication - a ruling that coincided with Warner Bros. asking the star to step down from the Fantastic Beasts franchise - Dior continued to air his commercials.

And throughout his defamation trial last year, the Wall Street Journal reported that fans had been spiking sales of Sauvage in order to show support for the star.

At the time, a spokesperson for Depp praised the French luxury house as being "steadfast and unwavering in its support" for the actor.
