Johnny Depp confessed in a recent interview that he is preferring his quieter life in the UK, as opposed to his fast-paced life in Los Angeles.
The 59-year-old has had a tumultuous few years in the wake of his messy split, divorce, and subsequent legal battles with his ex-wife Amber Heard, 36.
Depp had sued Heard for libel following a 2018 op-ed Heard wrote for The Washington Post. Throughout the trial, attorneys for Depp argued that Heard's op-ed implied he was physically abusive towards his former wife - though she did not explicitly name him. His legal team also alleged that Heard's accusations cost him his reputation and his illustrious Hollywood career.
Jurors at the time found that Depp was entitled to $10 million in compensatory damages and punitive damages of $5 million.
One of the most talked about moments of the case occurred during Depp's testimony, in which he told the court that he was a "victim of domestic violence". He made the statement as he wrapped up his final day of testimony. "Tell the world, Johnny," Heard said in an audio recording played to the court. "Tell them I, Johnny Depp - a man - I'm a victim too of domestic violence."
Back in court, Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez asked her client what he had responded to Heard's suggestion that he is a victim of domestic violence, and he replied: "Yes, I am."
Following the fallout of the highly-publicized trial, Depp has apparently opted for a quiet life in Somerset, in South West England.
The actor - who was famously linked to Winona Ryder, Kate Moss, and Vanessa Paradis - has even opened up about his new life to lifestyle magazine Somerset Life. In the interview, he discusses his sprawling 19th-century 850-acre property - which boasts 12 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and cost close to $16 million.
"I just love places with character," Depp stated. "British people are cool and will greet you as if you are a neighbor - without going over the top. I like going to places, seeing things and meeting people - but I'm not the great extrovert that people think."
He then added: "In truth, I'm quite a shy person. That's one of the great things about Britain, and especially Somerset. I can just be me - and that's nice. I can go into shops without being surrounded by people wanting selfies. I don't mind that up to a point, but sometimes it gets a little too crowded."
