Ellen Barkin will be testifying against Johnny Depp in his defamation trial against Amber Heard when it resumes following a more than weeklong break in proceedings.

Today is the last of the 10-day hiatus in the high-profile court case in which Depp, 58, is suing Heard, 36, for claiming to be a victim of domestic violence in a December 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post.

Depp is seeking $50 million in the case and Heard is countersuing the star for twice as much.

The trial is taking place in Fairfax County, Virginia, and has seen the Pirates of the Caribbean star complete four days of testimony, with his former wife set to continue her own testimony when the trial resumes tomorrow (May 16).

Per Entertainment Weekly, actress Barkin had a short fling with the Fantastic Beasts star sometime in the '90s. They first met while starring together in the 1998 movie, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Barkin had taken the stand at Depp's libel trial against UK tabloid The Sun. Depp failed to successfully sue the paper for branding him a "wife beater" with regards to allegations made by his ex-wife, Heard.

At the UK trial, Barkin told jurors that Depp was verbally abusive to her while they were dating and claimed that her ex once threw a wine bottle across a hotel room during a heated row with some friends.

While on the stand, Barkin said Depp never physically assaulted her but described him as being violent on occasion.

Depp refuted her claims, suggesting that she was motivated by a "grudge" she was holding against him.

"A sexual element began with Ms. Barkin which lasted for months on and off really because she was making the film I was making at the time, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," Depp said.

"She wanted a proper relationship with me and I did not want that. I didn't feel the same about her as she did me and I suppose from that moment on she became very, very angry and since then I have not spoken to Ms. Barkin," he added.

Also expected to testify against Depp when the trial resumes is Heard's sister, Whitney Henriquez.
