On October 16, it was announced that the former One Direction member had tragically died after falling from the third-floor balcony of his room at the Hotel CasaSur in Argentina.

The fall left him with fatal injuries and he was ultimately pronounced dead shortly after.

The head of Buenos Aires's SAME emergency medical service, Alberto Crescenti gave further details to local television outlets, stating that Payne had suffered "very serious injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall" and there was "no possibility of resuscitation."

A preliminary autopsy was also carried out and confirmed that the 'Strip That Down' hitmaker suffered severe injuries that led to “internal and external hemorrhaging” from the impact of the fall.

In the wake of the news, close family and friends have been taking to social media to express their love for the late singer, most recently, Justin Bieber, who took to Instagram to share his thoughts.

On Monday (October 21), the 'Baby' singer took to his Stories to re-post a heartbreaking tribute that was originally posted to the platform by the fan account @xorainbowlouis.

The video showed multiple fan-made memorials, with the most notable showing a wall covered in notes, photographs, and flowers.

A voiceover for the clip said: "Just remember: you are allowed to grieve as a fan. You are allowed to love someone you've never met. You are allowed to admire someone for their art. You are allowed, to cry, to break, to feel like a part of you is gone."

It comes after Payne's former bandmates from One Direction released a statement addressing the death of their loved one.

"We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing," the statement written on behalf of Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan started.

"In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly," they continued.

"The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly," they added before signing off with: "We love you, Liam."
