Katy Perry has finally broken her silence on her break-up with former fiancé, actor Orlando Bloom, and the start of her new relationship with politician Justin Trudeau.
The pop superstar was previously engaged to Bloom from 2016 to 2025, and the pair share a daughter, Daisy, together.
Following their split, Perry entered into a relationship with Trudeau, the former Prime Minister of Canada.
Despite the couple becoming more and more public, we've never heard from either party about what lead them together. Now, Perry has made a rare public comment about both the split from Bloom and her new romance.
In a new interview with People, Perry admitted that for her, 2025 was a rough ride. Not only was she splitting from her long-time partner Orlando Bloom, but she was navigating rocky waters in her career too, following the negative reception to her last album, 143.
"Last year was really hard," she told the publication. "I learned how to step back into my purpose."
However, Perry did more than just that. It was during her tour for 143, called the Lifetimes Tour, where she first connected with Trudeau, who was going through a transitional time of his own, having split from his wife, Sophie Grégoire, in 2023.
"I got the greatest gift from this tour," Perry stated. "I got to meet the love of my life.'
Opening up about how she first met the former Prime Minister when she traveled to Canada to perform on the Lifetimes Tour, Perry said that Trudeau "shifted" things in her life as soon as they met.
The singer, who came to fame with hits such as 'Teenage Dream' and 'I Kissed A Girl', is a huge believer in manifestation, and says that this mindful practise is, in her eyes, exactly what brought her and Trudeau together at exactly the right time.
She wrote down a list of all the things she wanted to achieve and experience in 2026 last August. At the very end of the list is the final entry - "true love".
"I had to let it go so I could move forward," Perry explained. "I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece — then it showed up.”
