The Kardashian/Jenners are one of the world's most instantly recognisable families.

Thanks largely to their wildly popular reality show, Keeping up with the Kardashians, which follows the family around as they live their glamorous, money-filled lives, we all know more than perhaps we even realise about Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kylie, Kendall and the rest of the Karjenner mob.

The Kardashians are, in large part, a product of the celebrity-obsessed society they operate in; outside of their show, fans voraciously consume Kardashian 'kontent' on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and celebrity talk shows, with a never-ceasing appetite.

This level of fame has its rewards, of course; Kylie Jenner is poised to become the world's youngest 'self-made' billionaire, thanks to her cosmetics empire, while the rest of the family could hardly be described as scrimping when it comes to their finances.

The flip side of that astonishing level of celebrity, though, is the incessant media scrutiny; the sisters can barely buy a bagel without making headlines, and that must surely get tiresome at some point.

All that meant, of course, that interest in the various sisters' recent pregnancies reached monumental levels, with speculation rife and rumours abound as to who was pregnant, whether it was a boy or a girl, and when it would finally be announced.

While Kylie and Khloe bore the brunt of this intrigue, Kim was open in her decision to give birth via a surrogate, due to complications she had suffered while pregnant in the past.

In January, baby Chicago was born, leaving fans cooing over her cuteness, but also somewhat puzzled over her unusual name.

Well, Kim has been speaking about the process of choosing Chi's name, and let's just say, it was a long and complicated one.

Speaking on the Ellen show recently, Kim even said she's still not 100% sold on the name to this day;

"It kind of messes with me, I'm not going to lie. I really liked the one syllable thing. I don't even know why [we chose it.]"

She further explained that she and Kanye had considered Chicago Rei, Jo and Grace as potential names, but didn't feel that they suited baby Chi. She also said that she wishes to give Chicago a middle name, because;

"I haven't really been into middle names but it's like I really wanted a name that was short. A one-syllable name. Like, Chicago just looks really long to me and doesn't flow, so I call her Chi."

Now, on Keeping up with the Kardashian's, Kim revealed that she considered even more names for her baby, including "Italy, Milan and Rome," and that she "scoured a map" for other location-based names. She also considered "Aaron and Abel", but decided against those, too.

And if they weren't wacky enough, here are some of the more left-field suggestions she received;

"I got the most ridiculous ideas, like "Queen" and "Vuitton" and "This." Kanye's cousin is like, "Miracle," and I'm like, "Miracle West?!" That's like Miracle Whip and that's the biggest stripper name of all time. And then he's like, "What about "Precious?" and I'm like, "Clearly we don't have the same taste in names."

Finally, they settled on Chicago, a tribute to Kanye's late mother, Donda West. And that, my friends, is the story of how Chicago West got her name. Goodnight.
