Lewis Hamilton has revealed his plan to change his name by incorporating his mother Carmen's last name, The Independent reports.
"I’m really proud of my family’s name: Hamilton," the 37-year-old said during the 2022 Dubai Expo on Monday. "Actually none of you might know that my mom’s [last] name is Larbalestier. And I’m just about to put that in my name.
"Because I don’t really fully understand the whole idea of why, when people get married, the woman loses her name. I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name."
When asked whether the alteration would be in place in time for the race at the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend, Hamilton responded: "It will be soon. No, I don’t know if it will be this weekend. But we’re working on it."
Check out what he had to say at the event:The seven-time Formula One world champion will use "Larbalestier" as his middle name - rather than add it on to his surname.
In other news, Hamilton has expressed concerns he will not be in contention to compete for a record-breaking eighth world championship.
He said, according to The Independent: "It is too early to have those kind of thoughts about the world championship, but at the moment I don’t think we will be competing for wins.
"I am sure everyone can figure out that we are not the quickest. Ferrari look to be the fastest, and perhaps Red Bull and then maybe us, or McLaren. We are currently not at the top."
In any case, fans had plenty to say about his decision to include his mother's last name into his own.
One tweeted: "This is just a young man who loves his parents and wants their names to carry on. Well done you Lewis."
Another added: "A nice nod to [his] mom. I wonder if Sir Lewis is thinking of adopting as names and his future/ legacy are on his mind? A lot of people assuming it'll be H before L but there's no rule, so he could choose to be called Sir Lewis Larbalestier Hamilton."
A final person commented: "Lewis Larbalestier Hamilton. With a name like that, should be a film star!"
