Lil Nas X has spoken out after sparking outrage on social media over his "disgusting" Halloween costume.
It's safe to say that the 24-year-old 'Old Town Road' musician never fails to push the limits when it comes to fashion as he is well known for dressing up in entertainingly over-the-top outfits on and off-stage.
However, despite having fun with his image, the young star does raise some eyebrows as this past week he wore what could be deemed as his most outrageous look yet.
For Halloween 2023, the artist - whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill - transformed into a blood-soaked tampon as seen in a video shared on his Instagram page.
Watch Lil Nas X's dressed as a tampon below:The clip begins with a huge piece of material made to look like the opening of a vagina. The camera then pans away to show Lil Nas X sporting a padded white tunic dress dyed red to resemble the used period product.
The camera then shows the 'Montero' singer dragging a white string behind him as he wears the bizarre ensemble, which he paired with knee-high white heeled boots and a blond wig tinged with red accents.
Lil Nas then waves the string around as he drops down to the floor into a dance move, but then he almost trips as his platform boots prove to be a problem.
Disgruntled fans were not happy with his daring Halloween look, and took to the comment section to express their disgust. One disappointed person wrote: "Not funny. Actually quite misogynistic."
Another user interjected: "It’s giving 'mockery'…. This is screaming jajajaja at real women that have to deal with menstrual cycles and everything that comes with it," while a third said: "This is so wrong you don’t even know [what] we go through every month just gone laugh at our pain."
The controversy also made its way to X (formerly known as Twitter), where someone described the costume as "Irritating, nasty and disgusting," and a second user added: "First the fake pregnancies & now this ??"
"Can men stay out of our f***ing business & stop joking about things that are insanely painful for women…" they concluded.
After sparking major debate with his look, Lil Nas X took to Twitter to hit back at the criticism.
Following a break from the music industry, he penned: "I been silent for nearly 2 years y’all are not finna pretend to be mad about a tampon costume. Let me at least get new music out first."
Judging by his post, the 'Industry Baby' chart-topper thinks that people should be more offended by his songs and music videos - which have also caused controversy in the past.
