Lupita Nyong'o unintentionally became a trending meme last night, and it was all down to her seating at the 94th annual Academy Awards.
The 39-year-old Black Panther star probably didn't wake up expecting to have her face being circulated across social media, but due to the actions of others, that is exactly what has happened.
You see, at last night's Oscars ceremony, Nyong'o found herself sitting behind A-list couple Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Now, you may have heard that the couple became embroiled in some drama at the event, after comedian Chris Rock made a joke directed at Jada. Referring to Jada's shaved head, the 57-year-old comedian said: "Jada, I love ya! G.I. Jane 2 - can't wait to see it."
Check out Rock's joke in the video below:However, despite drawing laughs from the audience, the joke was not well-received by Pinkett Smith, who turned away from the stage and rolled her eyes. Moments later, husband Will took to the stage, approached Rock, and slapped him around the face.
The uncomfortable moment led to a bewildered Rock saying: "Will Smith just smacked the s*** out of me."
After returning to his seat, Smith then yelled: "Keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth!"
An uncensored video of the moment can be seen below (Warning - strong language):Of course, the person with the front row seat to the drama was Nyong'o, who could be seen sitting behind Smith going through a rollercoaster of emotions in response to what she had just seen play out in front of her.
And, naturally, it wasn't long before Nyong'o's reaction became a meme.
Sharing a picture from the now-swept-under-the-rug Oscars selfie, one person wrote: "Lupita Nyong’o has now been part of two (2) iconic Oscars moments."
A second Twitter user joked: "Congratulations to Lupita Nyong’o for winning best actress in a supporting role for 'The Slap'".
Referencing the actor's incredible poise, another person wrote: "Maybe Chris Rock can take a hit but Lupita Nyong'o is the real professional here."
This amazing comparison was then highlighted to the world:
And the memes just kept coming:
