We've all done things we're not proud of when drunk. Some of us have woken up with a tattoo, or in bed with a complete stranger. But now a man has gone viral on social media this week, after changing his name to Celine Dion as a result of a night of heavy drinking.
According to a report by Birmingham Live, the man in question, originally named Thomas Dodd, legally changed his name to that of the acclaimed Canadian singer on December 30, 2020.
The 30-year-old, who hails from Staffordshire in England, apparently got drunk after watching too many Celine Dion performances over the Christmas period and decided to swap his own name for Dion's in tribute to her.
Spending a mere £89 ($120) to make the change, Dodd now has a new name and apparently has no plans to change it back.
Dion/Dodd announced his name change in a status update made on Facebook. Posting a picture of the legal documents formalizing the name change, he wrote to his followers:
"Tier 4 is the least of my worries - I’ve just got home to some post. Apparently at some point over Christmas I’ve had one too many vinos and legally changed my name to Celine Dion! [sic]"
Dion/Dodd's post quickly went viral and has since accrued over 2,400 reactions, 318 comments, and over 3,000 shares as of the time of writing.
In a later interview with Birmingham Live, Dion/Dodd stated that, although he is "slightly-obsessed" with the performer, he does feel a little awkward about informing his work's HR department about the name change.
He stated that his sister was shocked and that his mother did not approve of the name change, and that he is slightly worried about introducing himself to new neighbors.
Dodd/Dion also added that he's been practicing his singing in the shower, but sadly his vocal talents have still fallen far from his namesake. He's also worried about potentially being pulled over by the police while driving, in case they believe his driving license or ID to be fabricated.
So best of luck with your new name Celine! We hope it brings you much happiness in the near future.
