Kelly Ripa is temporarily stepping away from her morning television hosting duties to focus on her health.
On the Monday, July 27, 2026, broadcast of Live with Kelly and Mark, her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos shared that she is recovering from gum graft surgery.
The common dental procedure will keep her off the airwaves for a week while she strictly follows medical instructions.
Consuelos, 55, welcomed viewers to the nationally syndicated show alongside guest co-host Kevin Jonas.
Right at the start of the episode, he explained that Ripa was absent due to the operation. He noted that the recovery process requires total vocal rest, meaning his wife is temporarily restricted from speaking.
"Kelly sends her love," Consuelos said during the broadcast. "Kelly had a little bit - well, it’s not a little - she had a gum graft surgery."
A gum graft is a routine periodontal treatment designed to address thinning or receding gums. According to the Cleveland Clinic, the process involves transferring healthy tissue to cover exposed tooth roots, which helps protect against further recession, minimizes tooth sensitivity, and enhances overall oral health.
Ripa, 55, actually had the surgery recommended to her by a dentist half a decade ago. Consuelos remembered the exact timeline on air. "Her dentist said five years ago, 'You can do it in about five years,' " Consuelos recalled. "And she joked, 'I didn’t think I’d still be on the air in five years!' ”
Even though Consuelos reported that Ripa is doing well, she must adhere to a comprehensive list of rules to ensure proper healing. Aside from avoiding speech, her recovery guidelines include eating a soft-foods diet, avoiding the use of straws, and not pulling at her lip to check the progress of the surgical site.
Jonas, 38, joked about the speaking ban, saying, "Wow. That’s got to be the hardest thing she’s ever done."
Consuelos agreed, noting that his wife is an excellent conversationalist, and admitted he is doing his best to make sure she follows the rules and directions.
He joked about how she managed to get a checkup from him without moving her mouth, explaining that she tilted her head downward so he could look inside without disrupting the area.
When Jonas inquired if the healing process was painful, Consuelos confirmed it was. "Yeah, it’s painful," he replied. "But she famously doesn’t feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t use the novocaine. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad."
Jonas then shared a story about his own wife, Danielle Jonas, having a high pain tolerance, prompting a humorous observation from Consuelos. "Well, they do have kids. They deliver kids," Consuelos replied. "We’re not built for that."
A representative for Live with Kelly and Mark confirmed that Ripa would remain away from the desk for the next week. A rotating lineup of famous faces will step in to assist Consuelos during her absence.
Jonas returned to the co-host chair on Tuesday, July 28. For the remainder of the week, the show featured Mila Kunis on Wednesday, Pamela Adlon on Thursday, and Scott Foley on Friday.
Live with Kelly and Mark continues to air on weekdays in national syndication.

Kelly Ripa has revealed that she once fell unconscious in the middle of sex with her husband Mark Consuelos before being rushed to hospital.
The 51-year-old Live With Kelly and Ryan host has been married to the Riverdale actor since 1996, and the couple share three children: Michael, 25, Joaquin, 10, and Lola, 21.
The TV show host recalled the terrifying sex story in her new memoir, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories, which is set to be released on September 27.
Ripa explained that the incident went down in the late 1990s when she and Consuelos were newlyweds - and just a few months after she had given birth to her first child.
The All My Children actress wrote that she ultimately passed out during the lovemaking but not because she was having the time of her life - although she was - but due to two ovarian cysts she was unaware of.
Ripa then wrote in her book, according to Haute Living, that while the whole thing was quite the ordeal for her, she said that her husband was almost too calm throughout the scary experience.
"My eyes shift between the fuzzy images on the screen, the remnants of my ovarian tormentor, and Mark happily snacking away," she said. "Sex can be so traumatic I think, and yet one of us is completely undaunted."
"There he is, happily munching on the saltines now and ordering a second apple juice. Mark could be at a movie or a spa. Instead, I’m flat on my back wondering when the other two cysts will burst," she added.
Even in her hospital bed, the Hope and Faith actress was awake to berate her husband over her outfit choice after he rushed her to the ER in a French-cut leotard, red "f*** me" Manolo Blahniks, and a pair of his oversized Juventus warm-up pants.
"Also, here is my husband, who is, dare I say, stylish, well-dressed at all times, and yet he dressed me like a dime store prostitute in my time of need," she said.
"It’s still baffling to me to this day that this is the best costume for the day that he could find for me, to the point where, when I was on the stretcher, I thought I was dreaming; I was having a nightmare. I didn’t realize I had come to," she added.
Fortunately, Ripa made a full recovery and now knows not to let her husband "pick [her] death clothes".

Over the years, their relationship has blended work and home life seamlessly, with Consuelos now joining Ripa as co-host on Live With Kelly & Mark.

However, on Thursday’s episode of Live With Kelly & Mark, the pair broached the difficult topic of divorce.

Kelly Ripa has opened up about her sex life with her husband, Mark Consuelos, including one "disgusting" habit that he has in the bedroom.
The daytime TV queen, 54, opened up about her long-running marriage on Tuesday’s episode of Amanda Hirsch’s Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, where the couple’s bedroom habits became a candid topic of discussion.
“I don’t know about you, in your marriage, but I’m going to go personal. Are you an evening person or a morning person?” Ripa asked Hirsch, who quickly confirmed: “Definitely evening. Do not breathe on me in the morning.”
From there, Ripa didn’t hold back, revealing that Consuelos — her husband of nearly three decades — has a very specific preference.
“I find it disgusting,” she said, claiming, “all men prefer to get it on in the morning.” And according to her, Consuelos “only” wants sex first thing.
“He’ll never learn. He’s a guy,” she joked.
After 29 years of marriage, Ripa said she’s had to put her foot down and ask for a bit more balance.
“I said to him, ‘Here’s the thing,’” she recalled. “‘There needs to be a yin and a yang here. It can’t always be your way. ‘Cause it feels like 90 percent of the time it’s your way. And now that we work together every day, it’s gonna have to sometimes be my way, and my way’s at night only.’”
But it’s not just sex that’s off-limits for her in the morning. Even a kiss is too much before coffee.
“I have a retainer in. I gotta rip that out,” she explained. “And he’s got his nasal strips on. It’s like we are the most repulsive, disgusting [people.]”
Still, she acknowledged, men “don’t care” — adding bluntly: “the d**k has a brain of its own.”
She added: “I’m already pre-disgusted for tomorrow morning.”
Thankfully, working early mornings on Live with Kelly and Mark has had one unexpected benefit.
“The greatest thing about this job, this thing has like, almost repulsed him from morning time during the work week,” Ripa said. “Which is like a miracle.”
She even cracked: “May this show last until he suffers from erectile dysfunction,” before questioning why that hasn’t happened yet.
“Shouldn’t that be happening now? I was promised!” she laughed.
Still, despite the complaints, Ripa admitted there’s one solid reason they’ve kept the spark alive after all these years.
“It’s like exercise. The more you do it, the more you do it,” she said. “You just have to do it, and then you’re like, ‘Oh! I remember why I like this.’”
She noted that it’s easy to lose sight of intimacy when life is hectic. “You’re exhausted, your kids are young, you’re working full-time, you have a lot on your plate, and that can easily get pushed by the wayside,” she shared.
Ripa and Consuelos first met on the set of All My Children back in 1995, tied the knot just a year later, and have since raised three children: Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22.
These days, with an empty nest, the couple has found more freedom to reconnect — quite literally.
“Your entire life becomes nudity in the household wherever you want,” she said in May on her show.
According to Ripa, they’re now a “total freak show all the time,” and she’s even joked before that their daughter has accidentally walked in on them “doing it” more than once.

Kelly Ripa has opened up on her nearly 27-year marriage with her husband Mark Consuelos in a new podcast.
The couple first met in 1995 when the 51-year-old Riverdale actor joined the cast of All My Children, where the 52-year-old actress starred as Hayley Vaughan. They then tied the knot in May 1996.
The Live With Kelly and Ryan star shared a glimpse into the beginning of her marriage in her new Sirius XM podcast, Let’s Talk Off Camera, and reflected on her husband being "insanely jealous".
"My biggest complaint about you over the course of our marriage - and this is not recent because it definitely changed - but you used to be insanely jealous and that was a hard pill to swallow," Ripa said in a teaser for the episode, per Entertainment Tonight.
"It's very hard being married to somebody who is jealous," she stated, adding that he had a "perception of a scenario," before sharing an example.
"It was our first week of marriage because we didn't take our honeymoon until later. You were working and I went to visit you in Boston," Ripa recalled. "We went to this Italian restaurant and the waiter was like a very cute old man, he's definitely in his 70s if not 80s.
"He leaned down and he said, 'And for the principessa?'" she continued, with Consuelos confirming that he remembers the specific interaction and admits that he "got upset" at the moment.
"I thought it was so cute that this little old man called me a princess, and I looked at him and I gave him my order in a very smiley way," Ripa added. "And he walked away and you picked a horrible fight."
"I remember that. Look at age 25, I was pretty insane," the self-aware husband reflected. "But that jealousy thing definitely followed me for a while. I'm not jealous anymore."
Ripa told her spouse that she's "so grateful that you're not," before the Queen of the South actor discussed his "character flaw" at the beginning of their relationship.
"It's ugly. As ugly as it feels to the person who has to be on the receiving end of it, it's such an ugly feeling inside. If this is any consolation, you know you're being crazy," he remarked. "The jealous person knows that this is wrong and it's ugly, but they can't help it."
Consuelos revealed that he doesn't know what caused him to simmer down with his jealousy, but explained: "I wanted to do some work on myself and that was one of the major things that I needed to work on because it was getting in the way."
The couple's marriage successfully lived on as they went on to welcome three children in their lives: Michael, 25, Lola, 21, and Joaquin, 20.
As for the next chapter in the professional career, the two will be seeing each other a lot more on-air, as Consuelos is replacing Ripa's former co-host Ryan Seacrest, on Live With Kelly and Ryan next month.
