Michael Douglas shuts down decades-long rumor about his sex life
Michael Douglas has shut down a decades-long rumor about his sex life.
The actor, known for his roles in films like Basic Instinct and Fatal Attraction, addressed the claim in his upcoming memoir, One Helluva Ride, after being questioned about his history with women in a new interview with The Sunday Times.
"I don’t know if I slept with so many women, I don’t see it that way," Douglas said. "No, not me, no. I was a healthy product of the sixties."
He then questioned why his sex life continues to make headlines in the news. "My curiosity is why, of all countries, of all the press that I do, why are the Brits so consumed with the issues of sex?" he added.
When the interviewer pointed out that Douglas' memoir is "full of sex," the 82-year-old responded: "I didn’t feel like it was. I mention a couple [of women] in the book."
Douglas denies long-running sex addiction claim
In the 1990s, there were rumours that the Falling Down star had developed a sex addiction, with reports also claiming that he had entered rehab to seek treatment.
But Douglas rejects that version of events in his book: "I was never a f**king sex addict."
He has also said the claim started with a British tabloid and was not true.
Douglas reveals a secret relationship with Kathleen Turner
The Oscar-winning star revealed that he and Kathleen Turner became romantically involved after filming Romancing the Stone in 1984.
"Kathleen was smart, funny, and sexy with a deep, sultry voice that became her signature," he said in the book. "I instantly liked her, and we were immediately attracted to each other."
At the time, he was married to Diandra Luker, although he said their marriage was already in trouble and described himself as "technically married but not separated."
"The truth is that during the production of Romancing the Stone, Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship," he said.
The pair kept their relationship a secret for around four decades before Douglas decided to reveal it in his memoir.
He also shared that before becoming involved with Turner, he had been having an affair with the movie's screenwriter, Diane Thomas. But that ended after Luker visited the set.
Douglas wrote that Turner backed away because she didn't "want to interfere".
The Wall Street actor's marriage to Luker would ultimately end anyway. They separated before officially divorcing in 2000 after more than two decades of marriage.
Douglas ended up meeting Catherine Zeta-Jones in 1998. According to One Helluva Ride, the 57-year-old actress was not interested in dating him if he was seeing other women.
"What Catherine said is, if we’re going to continue this, then I want it to be monogamous," he wrote. "And so I therefore, that evening, you know, made some calls to some people I was seeing, and that was that."
The couple have been married since November 2000 and share two kids: daughter Carys and son Dylan.
Douglas shared a 47-year-old son, Cameron, with his ex-wife, Luker.
