Sharon Stone recreated 'most paused scene in movie history' 32 years later - it's now been taken off the internet
Sharon Stone is responsible for one of the most iconic scenes in movie history - but her attempt at recreating it 32 years later has now been scrubbed from the internet.
The actress' turn as a femme fatale killer in the 1992 psychosexual thriller Basic Instinct is notorious for a specific scene where her character, Catherine Tramell, is being interviewed by police in connection with a murder.
During the investigation, Stone's character, wearing an all-white outfit, crosses her legs - revealing to the police officers that she's not wearing any underwear.
It remains one of the most iconic scenes of 90s cinema, and one of the 'most-paused' scenes in movie history. But what happened when Stone tried to re-create it three decades later?
Why was Sharon Stone's Basic Instinct re-creation removed from the internet?
32 years after her original turn in Basic Instinct, Stone - then 66 years old - took to Instagram to debut a new take on the scene in the modern day.
Sat on a gold and white chair, Stone wore pink lingerie and high heels, crossing her bare legs and looking straight into the camera.
The caption read: "Basically yours..."
However, the iconic re-creation hasn't stuck around to last. Less than two years after Stone posted the throwback, the post on her official Instagram page has been deleted with no explanation.
What's the legacy of Basic Instinct?
Basic Instinct was one of the most controversial erotic thrillers of its time, especially given the explicit sex scenes between Stone and co-star Michael Douglas, as well as the aforementioned interrogation scene for which the scene (and actress) is most famous.
However, in the years following the film's debut, the interrogation scene itself became a point of contention; with Stone saying in many interviews following the film's release that the director, Paul Verhoeven, had never told the actress that he was filming her exposing her bare flesh on camera.
In her 2021 memoir, Stone remained insistent that Verhoeven misled her as to the circumstances of filming the scene, but ultimately did not seek an injunction against the film, although it undoubtedly affected her career and reputation in the ensuing years.
Since then, however, it seems that Stone's ire at the scene has cooled somewhat. In 2023, Stone commented that, compared to modern-day standards, Basic Instinct's explicit scenes were actually relatively tame.
"People are walking around with no clothes on at all on regular TV now,” she said.
