NFL star Aaron Rodgers claims his ex-fiancée Shailene Woodley asked to sleep with another man after he proposed
Aaron Rodgers revealed stunning allegations regarding his past engagement to actress Shailene Woodley during a recent podcast appearance. The 42-year-old quarterback reflected on their brief romance, sharing explosive claims about what transpired shortly after he asked for her hand in marriage.
The athlete explained that Woodley initially accepted his proposal in December 2020. However, the NFL player alleged that the dynamic shifted dramatically just days after the romantic milestone took place.
According to Rodgers, the arrangement became complicated immediately following their engagement, leading to a quick decline in the relationship. The star opened up about the situation to set the record straight regarding their public split.
Unexpected post-proposal request
Speaking on Thursday's Not Just Football podcast episode, Rodgers acknowledged that the actress may have "felt like she was forced to make a decision" at the time, though he noted she "could have said no."
He alleged, "She said yes. … A couple days after that she tells me, ‘Before we get married I gotta go f**k this guy.'"
Rodgers did not clarify who Woodley was referencing with the comment. He went on to explain that the Fault in Our Stars actress ended up removing her engagement ring by March 2021.
"We had a couple of times where we tried to get reunited and nothing ever happened," the quarterback said. "There wasn’t even a relationship in 2022 to break off. She literally told me, ‘I don’t want to be with you,’ after we tried some reconciliation in 2021."
Addressing public comments and past splits
Rodgers voiced frustration over his exes speaking about him in media appearances over the years. The athlete asserted that former partners use his name because he is a public figure who will generate attention and digital traffic.
"Move on with your life. Don’t mention me," Rodgers stated. Addressing his ex directly, he added, "Shai, you left me, you took the ring off. Her story is that I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her. … What are we talking about regarding me ruining your life?"
The Pittsburgh Steelers player appeared to react to Woodley's previous comments from a 2024 interview with Outside magazine. In that feature, she referenced a "really awful, traumatic" incident in early 2022.
"I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy," Woodley said during that interview. "I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment. I knew I was depressed when I looked at a tree and felt nothing."
Woodley called that timeframe "the lowest low of [her] life." In a separate 2023 sit-down with Net-a-Porter, she described the split as the "darkest, hardest time of [her] life," adding, "My personal life was s**tty, so it felt like a big pain bubble for eight months."
News first broke in February 2021 that the duo had started dating in 2020, with their engagement news following shortly after. They officially ended their relationship by early 2022.
