Ever since Orlando Bloom admitted to filming an intimate threesome scene with actual sisters Rooney Mara and Kate Mara, the criticism hasn't stopped.
The British actor recently opened up about a steamy scene that he shared with the Mara sisters as part of the film Bucking Fastard.
He didn't leave much out of his explanation of the experience at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.
Bloom plays Gareth Mulroney in the flick, a sensitive man who becomes caught between twin sisters Joan Holbrooke and Jean Holbrooke.
The plot was inspired by the lives of identical twin sisters Freda Chaplin and Greta Chaplin, and Bloom was quick to speak about the emotional tone of his controversial scene.
Werner Herzog, the director, admitted that he allowed Bloom and the Mara sisters to take charge of themselves, telling Bloom that 'I cannot give instructions'.
Now, the public have shared what they think of the NSFW scene.
Unsurprisingly, social media users have heavily criticized Bloom's scene with the sisters, taking no time at all to take to Reddit to share their thoughts.
Bloom spoke about the scene over the weekend, and one person wrote: “This is just weird,” as another added: “Ewww … this is appalling. What work should I definitely NOT look out for so I don’t watch this filth?”
Many people voiced their disgust, as a third wrote: “I’m shocked they would actually do this … Just bizarre.”
“What the f–k is happening … why would the Maras agree to this,” a different critic wrote on the social media site.
But not everyone agreed with the harsh assessment of the upcoming film, as one user pointed out: “It’s acting. They’re all adults.”
Another defender said: “It’s acting. You’re not supposed to be attracted to and enjoy the sex scenes. It’s a job.”
“Sounds bizarre but it’s based on a true story. So I guess this is what happened,” one Reddit user observed.
Speaking to Variety, Bloom explained: “[There is] such simplicity to the characters and [their] carnal desires, but also an innocence to the sisters.”
Speaking to Deadline, the cast and crew opened up about how the collaboration came together and why both sisters felt compelled to accept the unique roles.
For Kate, taking on the project fulfilled a longtime desire to share the screen with her sibling, though finding the right one had previously proven difficult.
She explained: "Well, I couldn't believe it, I've been a fan of his forever, and Rooney and I have always wanted to work together. But we've never had the opportunity in a way that's felt real.
"It's really hard to find a script that is interesting enough for both lead actors and to find a filmmaker that you both adore and want to work with and trust. So yeah, when he reached out to us both, I was praying that the script was as interesting as the title. And it was."
Bloom said of his character: "My character, the ‘Bucking Fastard,’ is sensitive too, and he’s quite quickly out of his depth in some ways."
He noted that the threesome was a "very sincere sort of moment" that he, Rooney and Kate created together.
Bloom said that the trio created a very sincere moment together, balancing the physical nature of the scene with the innocence and desires of the characters.
