There's no shortage of people out there selling products related to celebrities. Seriously, it seems as though people will buy anything that somebody famous has cast-off. A t-shirt that Brad Pitt threw in the trash. A piece of tissue paper Jennifer Lawrence blew her nose into. One of Ariana Grande's hairs. If it's disgusting and personal then you can probably find it online somewhere.
However, now a duo of artists have decided to take things one step further, with an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, featuring cheese and other dairy products manufactured from the bacteria found in the navels of celebrities, the Daily Star reports.
Artists Christina Agapakis and Sissel Tolaas swabbed bacteria from the belly buttons of five celebrities and mixed the tiny microorganisms with milk to create a unique and funky selection of cheeses.
Celebrities involved in the weird food project include the rapper Professor Green, chef Heston Blumenthal, musician Alex James, Bake Off contestant Ruby Tandoh and Suggs from the band Madness. The cheese board consists of mozzarella, Cheshire cheese, comté, stilton, and cheddar.
Commenting on the exhibition, artisanal cheesemaker and food writer Rosie Cotton stated: "I know it sounds disgusting but really it's quite clever, not all bacteria is bad bacteria. Even the cheese you see in the shops comes from bacteria."
She added: "Granted, it isn't made from human bacteria but I think this is a fun way of trying something a little bit different. I wouldn't necessarily say to try this at home, but it definitely shows the fun that can be had with food if you are willing to step outside the box."
