Marvel claimed The Avengers: Infinity War was the most ambitious crossover event in history, which inspired a meme. People tweeted screenshots of other crossover moments from pop culture - when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles met the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, when Steve Urkel showed up Full House, when The Suite Life of Zack and Cody collided with Hannah Montana and That's So Raven. Those crossovers were far more ambitious, Marvel!
We see still see crossovers once in a while in television, but they rarely meet up to fans' expectations. When Family Guy crossed over with The Simpsons, the styles of humor didn't quite mesh, and none of Harry Shearer's characters appeared. (I would've loved to see The Griffins meet Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns and Principal Skinner.) And when New Girl crossed over with Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the execution was half-hearted, with just a handful of characters sharing a few scenes. However, Twitter users have a pretty idea for a crossover that sounds pretty awesome: An episode of Kitchen Nightmares, where Gordon Ramsay saves Jamie Oliver's failing restaurants.
Recently Jamie Oliver revealed that his eponymous chain of restaurants were on the verge of bankruptcy. 'Jamie's Italian' used to be successful, but after a precipitous drop in profits, the celebrity chef and entrepreneur had to invest $16.5 million (£13 million) from his own savings account. If he didn't inject his money, the business would have went bust.
"I haven’t got any more [money]," Oliver told The Telegraph. "I tried to do the right thing, I’ve never been paid by the restaurant group, I’ve always reinvested. My living was always the other side. So I could have just gone ‘do you know what? Let it go.' ... There’s a point where I can’t put the other side of the business at risk as well and the people who work there. The upside is I am now fully in control of the restaurant business. It’s fully owned by me. We’re getting on top of it and we’ve learned lots of lessons."
It sounds like Jamie Oliver would be the perfect candidate for Kitchen Nightmare. On the FOX reality series, irascible celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay spends a week at a failing restaurant in an attempt to revive their business. Sure, he might say something mean, like "F**k off," or put two slices of bread up to someone's head and call them an "idiot sandwich." But his unconventional methods get results sometimes, helping the troubled restaurants bounce back. Maybe he could save Jamie's Kitchen! And if not, who cares? We'd get to see Gordon Ramsay yell at Jamie Oliver, which would make for great television.
A lot of TV show crossovers feel contrived, but this one makes perfect sense. Make it happen, Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver and FOX! I think this would be the most ambitious crossover event in history. (Sorry, Marvel.)
