Prince Harry tried to repair his relationship with Prince Charles ahead of Prince Philip's funeral on Saturday.
According to The Mirror, the Duke of Sussex wrote a "deeply personal" letter to his father after a "complete communication breakdown".
It's reported that Harry, 36, used the letter as an opportunity to "outline his reasons for leaving" the Royal Family.
However, he allegedly also vowed to always "respect the institution" regardless of whether he was a working senior royal or not.
"He wrote a deeply personal note to his dad to try and set things straight but tensions are still running high and things haven't exactly ironed out the way he had hoped," a royal insider told the paper.
"There had been a kind of unspoken agreement between everyone to park whatever has been on each person's mind and solely concentrate on supporting the Queen ahead of Prince Philip's funeral.
"The feeling inside the camp was that it wasn't the time nor the place to go over things, especially at such an emotional time for everybody involved."
Harry allegedly decided to reach out to his father as he was unsure how his family would react to his return to the UK following his and Meghan Markle's joint interview with Oprah Winfrey.
According to the royal insider, Charles is still "very hurt" over his son's decision to sit down last month for the tell-all interview – during which accusations of racism were made against the Royal Family.
Harry told Orpah that an unidentified member of the Royal family had asked him and Meghan what color they believed Archie's skin would be prior to his birth.
Meghan also claimed that when her mental health deteriorated while she was a senior royal and that she was refused treatment, despite feeling suicidal while pregnant with Archie.
Harry went on to explain that his father and brother Prince William were "trapped" by the Royal Family because of their positions, and they do not have the option of walking away as he did.
But insiders at the Palace have hit back at the suggestion that the future kings would even walk away, saying that William and Charles were "outraged" by the suggestion.
While William and Harry were photographed speaking at their grandfather's funeral, it's reported their relationship is still "extremely frosty" following his interview with Oprah Winfrey.
According to the royal insider, while Harry did not expect to be on good terms with his family, the visit reinforced how much ground will have to be made up before they can repair his relationships.
