Last night's Golden Globes awards has quickly become the best awards show of the decade (see what I did there).

From Tom Hanks being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award to Brad Pitt being... well, Brad Pitt - it was a show full of highlights that we'll be YouTubing for years to come.

But in between Brad Pitt telling the audience to be kind to strangers and Michelle Williams urging women to go out and vote, there was Ricky Gervais spitting fire and roasting every celebrity in the room (and at home).

Nobody was safe. DiCaprio was called out for dating women much younger than him, Harvey Weinstein was mentioned in a room full of actors, and Apple was called out for their use of "sweatshops in China".

Check out the hilarious opening monologue below:

But perhaps the greatest moment was when Gervais addressed the room of "woke" celebrities and said: "You're in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world."

Gervais also told any celebrities who happened to win later in the night not to use their acceptance speech as "a political platform to make a political speech" - something that several celebrities ignored.

However, viewers couldn't help but notice one very unimpressed face in the room; that of Tom Hanks.

Viewers couldn't help but get emotional watching Tom Hanks choke up during his acceptance speech:

Hanks - who went on to win the Lifetime Achievement Award later in the evening - looked a combination of livid, exasperated, and dumbfounded every time the camera cut away from Gervais' opening monologue.

Naturally, Twitter exploded with comments and screenshots, all of which have made Hanks an early contender for 'Best Meme of 2020'. Check out some of the best below:

I guess Hanks didn't take too kindly to being told to "come up and accept your little award, thank your agent and your god, and f**k off".
