There's no doubt that Prince Harry has always been considered the most handsome male member of the royal family, and for a long time the public has been swooning over him. Sadly for his many fans, the prince is now married to former Suits actress Meghan Markle, who is no slouch herself in the looks department. However, it wasn't always thus, and back in the day it was actually his grandfather Prince Philip who was considered to be the best-looking royal. Indeed, those of us who have seen Matt Smith in the Netflix tv series The Crown can agree that Prince Philip certainly used to be quite handsome in the 50s.
If you want proof then look no further than the Instagram account of Chris Jackson; royal photographer for Getty Images. Jackson is currently covering the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's royal tour in Australia, and while following Harry and Meghan he found an old magazine cover (dated 1957) which shows Prince Philip on the cover. Due to his facial hair, he looked uncannily similar to his grandson, who was wearing the same tropical dress of the blues and royals that Harry wore to an ANZAC memorial while in Sydney on Saturday.
Jackson captioned the photo: "I spotted this beautiful 1957 vintage cover of a @parismatch_magazine whilst visiting our wedding venue in France a couple of years ago - Who does it remind you of!? Swipe right to see! I think it may have been colourised from a black and white negative but correct me if I’m wrong. Was very happy when the lovely people at @chateaurigaud let me keep it! Whilst today it’s very much a ‘Modern Monarchy’ it’s these historical reference points that make photographing the Royal family so unique and remind you of the centuries of tradition that remain at their core."
Fans certainly seemed to agree with this assessment. One person commented: "Wow! Harry looks just like Prince Phillip,' while another added: 'I thought it was Harry for a second"' while another added "They are so similar and their bond is undeniable. Harry gets his handsome looks from His grandfather. And his mother of course."
While chairing the Invictus games in Australia, he thanked the crowds who had gathered to meet him and Meghan, stating: "Thank you for the welcome you have given Meghan and I over the last few days. I've been so proud to be able to introduce my wife to you," he said, "and we've been so happy to be able to celebrate the personal joy of our newest addition with you all."
Harry is about to have even more in common with Philip in that he is about to become a father, and has apparently confessed that he is hoping for a girl. I'm sure that, whatever the child turns out to be, it will be a beautiful baby. It has good genetics after all!
