Vulgar chant prison inmates are taunting 'terrified' Russell Brand with after rape conviction
Russell Brand has reportedly been the subject of some prison chants during his first few nights at HMP Wandsworth in southwest London.
Earlier this week, the British comedian and actor was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault offences against four women between 2004 and 2009, and is facing a lengthy prison sentence.
The British actor appeared at London's Southwark Crown Court on November 5 after two days of deliberations, as a jury delivered a verdict.
The 51-year-old was, however, found not guilty on two other counts of rape and one of attempted indecent assault.
A judge told the Hop star to expect a 'significant custodial term' for his crimes, as he is currently being held behind bars.
While Brand has been issued a 'warning' about prison, it's been reported that he hasn't had the best start to life behind bars.
Russell Brand's taunting prison chant in
The convicted rapist is said to be 'cowering in fear', according to the Daily Mail, as hundreds of his inmates have come up with an abusive chant aimed at the actor.
They're allegedly chanting it over and over, telling the Wandsworth inmate: "There’s a Brand new nonce on the wing! A Brand new nonce. Brand, you c**t, you ain’t so f**king lairy now."
For those who are unaware, 'nonce' is a British slang term that is used for 'a rapist or child molester; a sexual offender,' as per Dictionary.com.
Another British term, 'lairy', can be defined as 'behaving in a loud, excited manner, especially when you are enjoying yourself or drinking alcohol', according to the Cambridge English Dictionary.
Wandsworth is one of the most notorious prisons in the UK, with inmates having to deal with overcrowding, rodents, and violence, says a report from the Howard League for Penal Reform.
They found that the penitentiary had 1,457 inmates on record, despite only being certified for normal accommodation for 894, surpassing its capacity by over half.
Russell Brand's reported nickname
According to the Daily Mail, Brand endured a stinky first night in the south-west London jail's Care and Separation Unit (CSU) at HMP Wandsworth, as an inmate staged a dirty protest.
This involves deliberately smearing or throwing feces and urine around a cell.
The CSU is also called 'The Block' or 'The Seg', and it is mostly below ground, as staff call it the 'bowels' of the prison.
Due to where he's been placed, Brand has now been dubbed 'Russell from the Block'.
Staff at Wandsworth believed that the convicted Brit was too high-profile for the Vulnerable Prisoners (VPs) wing, where other rapists and sex offenders are usually kept.
Russell Brand given warning after details of first days
It's been reported that the Brit has been 'shaken and quiet' in his first days behind bars, as sources say that he is 'in real danger'.
Sources say that he was 'petrified' of spending his first night in custody, and is currently being 'watched around the clock'.
Speaking to The Sun, a source claimed: "Brand’s first day in jail was a real shock to his system and a wake-up call. He looked shaken and was quiet.
"A horrible, noisy, and dirty jail like Wandsworth is a world away from his glamorous Hollywood lifestyle.
"Brand has been put in a cell and is being kept away from other inmates because he is in real danger due to his offenses, his wealth, and who he is."
