The news that Meghan Markle is now pregnant with Prince Harry's baby has well and truly shaken the world to its foundations. Just when we thought that all of the drama over the royal wedding had finally died down, suddenly everyone is eagerly awaiting their new little bundle of joy.
It all began when Kensington Palace released a statement on their official Instagram account; a photo of Harry and Meghan along with a caption which read: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019. Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public."
Most surprising of all; one person who seems to have caught a bad case of royal baby fever is Meghan Markle's paternal half-sister Samantha. Samantha and Meghan haven't had the cosiest relationship and had been estranged from each other for almost a decade. Not only that, but Samantha often took her father Thomas Markle's side when it came to his criticism of the royal family. However, now Samantha appears to be more contrite and has indirectly apologised to Meghan in a recent interview.
Talking to British tabloid newspaper The Daily Mail, Samantha stated: "It's so important that everybody put their egos aside. Meghan's done some things with my dad, but in my heart, I love her and I want her and the baby to do well. I was kind of overwhelmed with emotion [when I heard] and I just thought, 'I'm letting everything go.' It's beautiful and I'm so excited for Harry too."
She added: "I'm so excited, I'm so happy for you and I really, really am sorry for any of the past tension and confusion and misunderstandings and asinine things I've said when I just didn't understand what was going on and I wanted things to work out for my dad ... But this is just a great time for you guys and Meg, I love you. Congratulations to both of you. Let's just let it all go and you two be wonderful happy parents - I'm so happy for both of you."
This pronouncement certainly seems to be a bit of a 180 for Samantha, who once described her half-sister as a "shallow social-climber" Indeed, in a May 2018 interview on the TLC special program When Harry Met Meghan: A Royal Engagement, she told the hosts that she was writing a tell-all book about growing up with Meghan, entitled: The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister.
Ah well. Perhaps we really should give Samantha the benefit of the doubt, and assume that she really means it when she says that she wants to bury the hatchet.
