Shailene Woodley reacts to ex-fiancé Aaron Rodgers’s after he claimed she asked to sleep with another man before marriage
Actress Shailene Woodley attended an Emmys fundraiser on Sunday night (September 13), where she was asked about ex-fiancé Aaron Rodgers’ comments.
The NFL star claimed that just days after Woodley accepted his proposal in December 2020, the dynamic shifted.
He said on Thursday's Not Just Football podcast episode that the arrangement became complicated immediately following their engagement, which led to a quick decline in the relationship.
Rodgers claimed that the actress may have "felt like she was forced to make a decision" at the time, though he noted she "could have said no."
He added: "She said yes. … A couple days after that she tells me, ‘Before we get married I gotta go f**k this guy.'"
Days after his comments, which came years after their split, Woodley was asked for comment on the claims, which she didn't verbally respond to.
Woodley's reaction to Rodgers' comments
As reported by TMZ, the Divergent actress was approached by a reporter who asked about her former partner's comments about their relationship.
The 34-year-old didn't answer directly, though her facial expression could be interpreted a few ways.
Woodley laughed and smiled when asked about his comments, and kept walking, a stark contrast to the Steelers quarterback's comments.
The couple experienced a very public split, and Rodgers spoke about their break-up to set the record straight, on his end anyway.
Despite him claiming that she wanted to sleep with someone else before getting married, Rodgers didn't reveal who he was referring to.
Rodgers also explained that the actress eventually removed her engagement ring by March 2021.
Aaron Rodgers on ex-partners
Rather ironically, the NFL veteran has voiced frustration about his exes speaking about him in the media in the past.
He claimed that former partners use his name because he is a public figure who will generate attention and digital traffic.
"Move on with your life. Don’t mention me," Rodgers said.
Addressing his ex directly, he added, "Shai, you left me, you took the ring off. Her story is that I ruined her life and gave her crazy depression because I left her. … What are we talking about regarding me ruining your life?"
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback appeared to react to Woodley's previous comments from a 2024 interview with Outside magazine.
She referenced a "really awful, traumatic" incident in the feature, which took place in early 2022.
He also hit back at her version of their breakup, claiming that after she'd taken off her engagement ring, later reconciliation attempts went nowhere.
Rodgers claimed there wasn't even a relationship left to end by 2022, as he said that his exes fuelled narratives about him that were dishonest.
