Snoop Dogg is famously partial to smoking marijuana, but it turns out that there's one person that even he doesn't think that he could outsmoke.
During a 2018 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Snoop was asked to name the “Mount Rushmore of pot smokers.”
Host Jimmy Kimmel teed it up: “Seth Rogen was here last week, and we were talking about Mount Rushmore of pot smokers, and of course, you are on. And I think that Seth is on Mt. Rushmore. Who would you put on that Mt. Rushmore?”
Without hesitation, Snoop rolled out a list of cannabis legends. “I would put Bob Marley. I would put Cheech and Chong — they were the first faces on the mountain, they're the ones who showed us what a mountain was.”
But when it came to the top spot, one name stood above the rest. “Willie P. Nelson is definitely on there. And by the way, Willie Nelson is the only person who has ever outsmoked Snoop Dogg. I had to hit the ‘time out’ button.”
Kimmel, clearly surprised, asked if he’d ever had to do that before. Snoop’s answer was simple: “Never. Never.”
Willie himself later confirmed the story in an interview with The Daily Beast, revealing the epic smoke session took place in Amsterdam.
He said: “I called Snoop and I said, ‘Hey buddy, you gotta come over here. This is where it’s at!’ So he came over and we hit every bar, every smoke place in Amsterdam. We had a helluva time.”
Despite the bragging rights, Willie doesn’t see himself as unbeatable. “Oh, I don’t know. There are probably people that can outsmoke me! I don’t do a lot of smoking anymore. I’ve switched over to a vaporizer because it’s better on my lungs.”
He’s certainly earned the reputation.
“I’ve smoked everything there was,” Willie said. “When I was a kid growing up, I smoked grapevine, I smoked cotton leaves, I smoked everything that would burn. I smoked roll-up tobacco.
:And then I came across marijuana, and I said, ‘Wait a minute — I don’t need to drink whiskey no more, I don’t need to smoke cigarettes no more.’”
The country legend credited weed with helping him quit both tobacco and alcohol, especially after a collapsed lung forced him to make changes. “I quit tobacco, I quit alcohol, and I doubled up on the weed.”
For both Snoop and Willie, cannabis has become more than a pastime — it’s a lifestyle that’s fueled decades of creativity.
And while the idea of the two teaming up for a music tour sounds like a stoner’s dream, their joint session in Amsterdam might just remain the stuff of marijuana folklore.
