Sydney Sweeney breaks silence after going viral for wearing see-through 'braless' dress at event

Sydney Sweeney has broken her silence after going viral for wearing a see-through 'braless' gown at a red carpet.

As previously reported, the 28-year-old actress stunned many at the 2025 Variety Power of Women event on October 29.

The event, which honors women who inspire and empower, featured a stellar list of honorees, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Kate Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, and Wanda Sykes.

But it was Sweeney's striking appearance that stole much of the spotlight.

For the occasion, the Euphoria actress donned a figure-hugging silver dress that left nothing to the imagination.

The dress quickly became the talk of the internet, with many fans calling her a 'goddess' and expressing their admiration for her look.

Sweeney Broke Her Silence

Rather than engaging directly with the online buzz about her outfit, Sweeney chose to focus on the more meaningful aspects of the evening.

The Handmaid's Tale star took to her Instagram to share a video of her speech, accompanied by the caption: "Thank you @variety, @christy_r_martin and all the women who inspire us in big and small ways."

In the clip, she said: "The power to rise and to fight and to keep believing in yourself, even when no one else does," before taking the opportunity to dedicate her recognition to Christy Martin, a trailblazing female boxer who faced immense personal hardship.

“And as much as I am incredibly honored to be recognized as one of these women, there’s someone way more important and special than me I would like to dedicate this to," she continued.

“She is a woman who not only redefines higher sport but who struggles with domestic violence and sexual identity, gave a voice to so many who might not have had one."

"She means a lot to me, and I am so happy she’s here tonight, she’s a hero, you are an ultimate underdog, Christy Martin," she added.

A Heartfelt Tribute to Christy Martin

Sweeney opened up about portraying Martin in an upcoming film, and spoke about the boxer's story of survival after being shot and stabbed by her abusive then-husband, James "Jim" Martin.

He was later found guilty of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm and aggravated battery in April 2012, PEOPLE reported.

"Every one of us has our own fight," Sweeney said in her speech.

“Christy reminds us strength doesn’t have to look loud sometimes, it’s just about getting up again and again no matter who is watching."

“Playing her taught me it isn’t the end of the story, it’s about re-claiming it...And to every young girl out there I hope that you know your power is already within you," she added.

About the Film 'Christy'

The forthcoming movie, directed by David Michôd (Animal Kingdom), will be released in theatres this month.

The synopsis reads: "While Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring," a synopsis adds, "her toughest battles unfold outside it - confronting family, identity and a relationship that just might become life-or-death."

During an interview with Variety, the White Lotus star said she hopes the film raises awareness of Martin's story, as well as domestic violence. "It’s a very personal issue that’s important to me," she added.

Christy is in theaters on November 7.
