Tess Holiday has taken to social media to recall the moment a stranger told her to "lose weight".

Holiday, 36, has made a name for herself as one of the world's most successful plus-size models, landing the front covers of magazines like Cosmopolitan and People.

However, despite finding great international success, that apparently hasn't stopped people commenting on Holiday's appearance - and more specifically, her weight.

In a video shared with her 2.5 million Instagram followers, she recalls being approached by an older woman while in the waiting room of a doctor's office. The model captioned the post: "I don’t often give myself enough credit, & my energy this year is very much to cut that shit out. Going to the doctor & dealing with someone body-shaming me was apparently my tipping point lol, not sorry."

You can watch Holiday's Instagram post below:

Speaking from inside her car, Holiday says she was "minding her own business" when the stranger started talking to her.

The model continues: "[The woman] says, 'You are so pretty. You have a beautiful face and you have beautiful hair.' And I mean, I look like this, and my face is covered, but I'm like, 'Oh, thank you!' But she couldn't just leave it there...

"She then proceeded to tell me, 'Why don't you just lose a little bit of weight?'"

Sadly, this is something Holiday says "happens often".

"Usually when someone says something like that to me, because I have deeply seeded trauma and people-pleasing tendencies, I usually say something to kind of placate their diet talk to make them feel a little bit better," Holiday says - but this time she wasn't going to stand for it.

The model continues: "I looked at her, took a breath and I said, and I still can't believe I said this - look at me smiling, I'm so proud of myself - I looked at her and I said, 'Ma'am, I am one of the most famous plus-size models in the world; I think I'm doing okay.'"

I can only assume the woman needed to see the doctor for that BURN Holiday hit her with.

The pipebomb clearly took the woman by surprise, as she then started talking about how her sister once rented a room to a plus-size model, before telling Holiday: "You know, I just stop eating when I'm not hungry anymore."

But fortunately, Holiday was then called into the doctor's office and the bizarre interaction came to an end.
A wonderful reminder that people should never comment on somebody else's body. Ever.
