Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson caused a stir on Monday Night Football this week.

Appearing via video link, the star was joined by none other than an enormous T-Rex skull which could be clearly seen behind him.

The actor and former professional wrestler chatted to hosts Peyton and Eli Manning on the final ManningCast show of this year's NFL season. Johnson reflected on his college football career at the University of Miami - but it was his prehistoric pal that really caught the host's attention.

He went on to explain that his T-Rex had a name.

"That's Stan. So as a matter of fact Stan is the most complete T-Rex skull ever found by a paleontologist - a young paleontologist - and his name was Stan, so this T-Rex head was named after him."

He added: "Pretty cool and badass isn't it?"

To which Eli replied, saying: "I like it. I do."

In 1992, a 39-foot T-Rex fossil was excavated by paleontologist Stan Sacrison. The skeleton - which was discovered in a remote area between Wyoming, Montana, and North and South Dakota - is considered to be one of the largest and most complete examples of a T-Rex ever found.

The fossil was sold to an anonymous buyer in October 2020 at a Christie's live-action, where it went for a staggering $31,847,500, National Geographic reported.

After seeing The Rock with his T-Rex skull on Monday Night Football, many fans clearly began to speculate that that anonymous buyer was none other than Dwayne Johnson himself.

But Johnson took to Instagram this week to dismiss the rumors.

"After my LIVE interview on last night’s #ManningCast on @NFL’s Monday Night Football, there’s been tons of worldwide speculation in the world of science ~ that I am the 'mystery buyer' of the original T-REX skull, known as STAN," he wrote.

"I am not the mystery buyer."

"In my home office, this is my REPLICA CAST of STAN that I had made and purchased from my friends at The Black Hills Institute of Geological Research and Paleontological Excavations," the Jungle Cruise actor explained.

Alongside a photo of the massive skull, he also paid tribute to the team who built his replica Stan with a snap of them gathered around it.
