Since she joined the British royal family, it seems like the world has been more focused on the Duchess of Sussex's sartorial choices than all of her new responsibilities. Certainly, in the four months since she's been wedded to Prince Harry, the erstwhile actress has boarded the royal train - something that is unprecedented for such a recent addition to Kensington Palace - accompanied the Queen to official engagements, and last week she even hosted an event all by herself.
Still, we're all too transfixed by what the Duchess chooses to wear, and for good reason too. According to fashion experts, Meghan has a number of hacks she employs to look put together at all times, and you're going to want to know about this one...
Meghan has been pictured wearing a number of all-in-one styles over the past few months. A few days ago, she was seen wearing a £230 cashmere bodysuit by the US brand Tuxe, at the launch of a cookbook aimed at raining money for victims of the Grenfell tower blaze. She also chose a £190 Wolford style for her first official royal engagement in Nottingham, last year
Speaking to the Mail Online, stylist and brand consultant Alexandra Fullerton explained, "Meghan is very aware of her own style and as someone who favours sleek, chic silhouettes the bodysuit is the perfect option for her." She continued, "Bodysuits are a very smart way of dressing as they never bunch or ruche under outfits, meaning she can get on with the business of being a Duchess, rather than worrying that her top is untucking itself."
"I think Meghan chooses to wear a body suits as it is comfortable and offers a much sleeker finished look," fashion expert and celebrity stylist Rochelle White corroborated. "It saves any tops that she were raising up, becoming untucked or being a bit messy when out on royal visits or engagements. Bodysuits are perfect for any type of occasion, and they compliment Meghan's body shape and silhouette."
Well, it certainly looks like I'll be adding a few bodysuits to my shopping cart come payday...
The Telegraph reports that Prince Charles pays for William, Kate, Harry and Meghan's sartorial expenses from the income he receives from the Duchy of Cornwall. However, he doesn't have to bankroll anything related to his family actually performing their royal duties - travel costs are paid for by the Queen's Sovereign Fund - which means it's actually funded by taxpayers.
But while Meghan might have access to some of the world's best designers, and not have to pay a penny for any of it, there are certain rules that she has to follow. As you may have picked up on, when out on joint engagements, Meghan errs towards a muted palette of neutral toned clothing, while the Queen opts for her signature brights.
You guessed it - it's all to ensure that monarch takes centre stage at public outings - a fact corroborated by fashion commentator Lucas Armitage. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said "I feel this is a clever styling tactic as it will always work with the Queen's look; she is known and applauded for her use of bright fun colours."
Who would have known, eh?
