Chris Martin stopped his gig mid-song to ask fans to stop using their cell phones, a viral TikTok video has shown.

The Coldplay frontman, 45, was halfway through the band's hit 'Sky Full of Stars' when he stopped playing and was filmed saying: "Wait, hold on, one second. I think we can make this better, hold on."

Despite being on a strict time limit due to a curfew, Martin continued: "I'll speed through this because we wanna get all the songs in before they shut the thing down. So, let's try that again but please, if we could just have one song with no cell phones, no cameras, no devices, nothing, just the power of people, people power."

The singer's words were met with roaring support and applause from the crowd, who clearly agreed with his request. But, the singer didn't finish there: "I won't do the whole speech because it takes ages, but the basis of it is, let's just connect together as one group of people and see how high you can jump, how loud you can shout, and no phones, no cameras."

"After this song, you can film everything. But for this one song, let's just be people together, me, you, my brother, my sister and let's try it again," he added.

The TikToker, who captured the crowd-stopping moment, clearly agreed with Martin's sentiments as they captioned the video: "Without a doubt the highlight of the night came shortly after this video ended."

Coldplay fans from afar supported the move, commenting their thoughts under the TikTok, which now has 25,000 likes and counting.

One user commented: "Imagine a whole show without seeing a single phone in the air [heart-eyes emoji]."

"People should enjoy the moment instead of having [their] phones out," another added.

Of course, there were still a handful of commenters who disagreed with Martin's call to stop recording, with one TikTok account writing: "How much did they pay to see him? Tell him where to go [sic]."

"He's protecting the ticket sales. He knows some people wouldn't buy tickets if [they] can watch it online [sic]," another chimed in.

Coldplay is currently on their Music of the Spheres world tour, which began in March this year.

It seems that, while the band is committed to tech-scapism and reducing phone use, they also care deeply about the environment. Their website stated that they would plant a tree for every ticket sold and have even powered their show with 100% renewable energy.
