Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union have shared their proud reactions after daughter Zaya made her runway debut at Paris Fashion Week.
On March 7, the basketball player's 15-year-old daughter made her très chic runway debut walking in the Miu Miu fall/winter 2023 Ready to Wear show.
For her first-ever runway show, Zaya sported an olive green knit top, matching skirt, and oversized jacket as she held a brown bag that correlated with her slingback heels.
The teenager was in good company as her 41-year-old father and 50-year-old stepmom sat in the front row and beamed with pride as she began her modeling era.
In pictures posted on Twitter, the athlete donned black slacks with a white button-up, black tie, and black leather jacket, while the Think Like A Man actress complemented his look by wearing a simple black dress, which was accessorized with a dark purse and sunglasses.
The doting parents shared a few videos from the event on their social media pages, with the former Miami Heat player posting footage of him hugging his daughter right after her runway debut.
Dwayne also shared a video from Vogue Magazine of Zaya's excellent catwalk and sweetly penned: "I'm not crying, you are."
The young fashionista also posted a series of photographs and videos from the Miu Miu show on her Instagram, and her comments section was flooded with praises and congratulatory messages from family and friends.
Her supportive father commented: "To witness your grace is something @zayawade I am Proud of you."
Her big brother, Zaire Wade, also wrote: "If I was in the crowd, your forsure gonna break that look & laugh," adding a crying laughing emoji.
Model Alyssa Coscarelli remarked: "was so happy to see you up there. you look amazing," while actress/singer Cynthia Erivo added: "Beautiful baby girl. Congratulations"
The major catwalk moment comes after the teenager - who came out as transgender in February 2020 - was granted an official name and gender change on February 24.
According to TMZ, a Los Angeles County judge signed off on the new legal identity for Zaya, after her father first petitioned the court in August 2022. Now, her full legal name is Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.
While Zaya's mother and Dwayne's ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches tried to stop the petition from going through, the athlete emphasized that it is about his daughter's "best interest" and "empowering" her to "live her truth," as cited by Today.
Back in 2020, Zaya opened up about what it means to be a transgender teen in the spotlight and said: "Being my full authentic self feels like freedom. Being out and open and truthful about who I am to myself and others is just freeing.
"It’s a beautiful feeling to have and hold and to be able to share with the rest of the world," she told Logo. "Transphobia still exists and is widely common. There are genuinely people out there who think that you're a kid, this is a phase, or you don’t actually know what you're talking about.
"I know that I’m trans and it’s not like one day I just went, 'I want to try out being trans.' No. So just suck it up. We are who we are," she added.
