Elon Musk has passed his power over to the people.
The Tesla owner recently conducted a poll in which he asked social media users whether he should step down as CEO.
On Sunday night, the 51-year-old tweeted the question: "Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll" and gave everyone 12 hours to decide his fate.
Now that the results are in, it seems as though it's time for Musk's short stint as the self-proclaimed "Chief Twit" to come to an end.
During the time the poll was active, 17,502,391 cast their vote, and while 42.5 percent of users voted "No", the final results showed that 57.5 percent of Twitter users actually wanted the billionaire to step down from the top position.
But the real question is will he follow through with his promise?
In a follow-up tweet, Musk posted a cryptic message which stated: "Those who want power are the ones who least deserve it."
What is he alluding to? Your guess is as good as mine.
So far, no news of a successor has been announced.

The news comes after Musk acquired the social media platform in a $44 billion deal back in October.
Musk first started buying shares in the business back in January 2022 and by April, he became the highest shareholder with 9.1% ownership.
After acquiring the platform completely, he announced some major changes in the way the platform would be run, including the removal of censorship as well as a blue check subscription.

Musk's intention to make Twitter a platform for free speech backfired on him after the social media platform reportedly saw a massive spike in users tweeting the N-word, as well as other hateful slurs against minority groups as a way of utilizing the new policy.
According to further research, tweets that involved hate speech were 4.7-times higher than usual, averaging approximately 398 an hour with a potential reach of 3 million.
Researchers also added that there was an increase in negative sentiment and because of this, prominent celebrities including Stephen Fry, Toni Braxton, Gigi Hadid and Shonda Rhimes announced their departure from the platform following Musk's antics.
Things only got worse for the South-African entrepreneur as he tried to hold down the fort with further power moves. From mass firings, to the posting of ignorant tweets, it seemed as though anything he did was met with backlash.
And now, less than three months since his less-than-impressive takeover, he might be forced to relinquish his title as the CEO.
We'll just have to wait and see what happens...
