A Disney movie from the 1990s is once again raising eyebrows, with some claiming it is "inappropriate" and wouldn't be released in the modern world.

It seems to be a constant debate as to whether things that were created decades ago should be held to the same values that are expected today.

To put this into perspective, actress Mindy Kaling recently came out and said characters from the ever-popular show The Office would be canceled in the modern world.

However, one Disney movie from the 90s has gained negative attention after it shows an 11-year-old having a romantic relationship with an adult woman.

Even by the standards of over 20 years ago, this definitely feels like something that should have been questioned while in production.

The 1994 movie Blank Check follows 11-year-old Preston (played by Brian Bonsall) who is involved in a bike accident with an escaped convict and ends up getting a cool $1 million in the process.

However, what most first-time viewers of the movie probably don't realize is that the plot sees young Preston falling for a bank teller and undercover FBI agent called Shay Stanley (played by Karen Duffy).

Check out the trailer for the movie below:

Of course, as well as being an undercover FBI agent, she is also very much a grown-up woman.

As their story unfolds, Shay and Preston end up spending a lot of time together, and at one point they end up soaking wet after some slow-motion dancing in a water fountain. They then take a limo ride, where the tension is - shall we say  - inappropriate.

But it doesn't stop there. At the end of the movie, Shay actually kisses Preston on the lips, and then agrees to go on a date with him in six years' time - which would still only make him 17!

The movie has since been made available to stream on Disney+, which has resulted in either new audiences watching the movie for the first time or people rewatching the flick as a means of revisiting their childhood.

TikTok user Gio Johnson (@gio_johnson) shared images of the movie, including the scene where the pair share a kiss, and viewers are horrified. "Watching this as an adult made me uncomfortable," Gio captioned his post.

It would seem that the film that so many loved as a child has a completely different look when watching it through the lens of an adult.

One user commented: "I remember thinking aww how nice of her. Smh. Now I’m horrified," and a second added: "Thought it was weird back then too."

A third person said: "Did I block that scene out of my head [...] lord what did they have us watching," with a fourth concluding: "Yes I was watching this with my daughter a couple of months ago. Immediately said hell naw."

Another TikToker user also shared clips of the movie, along with the caption: "THIS IS A GROWN WOMAN KISSING AN 11 YEAR OLD BOY. DISNEY EXPLAIN YOURSELF".
