As anticipation for the final chapter in the current Star Wars trilogy reaches breaking point, fan fever is taking theories to strange new places. Not content with dissecting the brand new Rise of Skywalker trailer, which dropped last week, some Star Wars fanatics have posited that one actor is scheduled to make a surprising return to a galaxy far far away, it what would be the most surprising reveal since Luke found out he’d snogged his sister.

Actor Hayden Christensen, who played the young Anakin Skywalker in Episodes II and III of the epic space saga, has been at the center of a growing speculation storm, with fans more convinced than ever that he will reprise his role in the upcoming installment of the franchise.

Unlike a lot of internet gossip, there appears to be more to the idea than idle speculation. For starters, Christensen was recently pictured at Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge Star Wars theme park, in the cockpit of the Millenium Falcon and helping a young fan with her lightsabre.

These photos were posted to the official Disneyland Resort Twitter account, deleted, and then reposted again. Naturally, fans have been desperate to uncover a hidden meaning in the messaging ever since.

This followed an equally mysterious occurrence back in August when Christensen was scheduled to make a panel appearance alongside fellow cast member and Sith Lord, Ian McDiarmid. The pair were unexpectedly pulled from the fan event without explanation, leaving some to suspect that it was over a fear of spoilers.

Fans could certainly be forgiven for thinking that Anakin has a role to play in Episode IX. Not only is the movie called, “Rise of Skywalker”, but Anakin is technically yet to fulfill his destiny as “the chosen one” and bring balance back to the force. This plot point, coupled with the conjecture around Christensen’s media appearances, means that fans are certain to have plenty to chew over before December 19th.
