Somehow, it has been 20 years since the iconic animated poultry caper Chicken Run was released.
The plot of Chicken Run centered around a coop of chickens who make constant, ill-fated bids for freedom. Their sense of urgency is increased when they learn that the farm they live on, owned by the Tweedys, is to be converted into an automated production line with a pie machine to turn the chickens into meat pies.

With the help of stunt rooster Rocky, the chickens hatch a new plan to free themselves from their grizzly fate.
And now, two decades on from the release of the first movie, Netflix has announced on Twitter that the Aardman-produced movie will be getting a sequel, with production set to begin next year. Netflix wrote;
"POULTRY NEWS: Exactly 20 years to the day since the original was released, we can confirm there will be a Chicken Run sequel coming to Netflix!! Produced by @aardman, production is expected to begin next year. Eggsellent."

Fans of the movie first caught wind of news of a sequel last year when Will Becher, who co-directed A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, told Flickering Myth;
"Well, all I can tell you is that there were a lot of chickens being made towards the end of our film.
"We have a model-making team and, at one point, it was just full of sheep, but slowly over the course of the following weeks it became overrun with chickens.
"So there is definitely an intention there and it was announced they are in pre-production on a sequel."
As yet there has been no confirmation on whether Mel Gibson will return to voice the character of Rooster for the Chicken Run sequel, but with the original writers on board, fans can expect another entertaining animated romp.
