Allll righty then! It's time to style your hair high and grab your finest Hawaiian shirt, because it has been revealed that everybody's favorite pet detective is coming back to our screens.

In an unexpected announcement that will make all 90s comedy fans jump with joy, production company Morgan Creek - who was behind both Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and its sequel Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls - has revealed that they are developing a third installment of the franchise with Amazon.

Per Collider, Morgan Creek calmly divulged the huge news during a sit-down with Park Circus for a special spotlight piece.

When asked about its upcoming projects, the Morgan Creek team told Park Circus:

"We’re pretty excited about our franchise developments with 'Exorcist' and the 'Ace Ventura' franchise - its noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a third installment"

The team added that audiences have loved seeing beloved characters return to screens with new stories amid the pandemic (think Coming 2 America), and that Ace Ventura will once again feature in another motion picture.

Additionally, Morgan Creek announced that the untitled movie currently has Sonic the Hedgehog writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller attached - meaning Carrey, who played the eccentric villain Dr. Robotnik, will be in familiar hands.

That is, of course, if Jim Carrey is even slated or willing to return as the rambunctious pet detective - as there has been no confirmation that he will be the movie's lead. (But come on, I can't see audiences accepting anybody else - just go look at Ace Ventura Jr's 2.1/10 IMDb rating.)

Collider reports that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently filming, meaning that Ace Ventura 3 could be Carrey's next project after the video game film wraps.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective first hit theaters in 1994, and saw Carrey star alongside Courteney Cox, Sean Young, Dan Marino, and Tone Loc for a laugh-out-loud riot, as the animal-loving sleuth was tasked with tracking down the Miami Dolphins football team's beloved mascot.

Less than two years later, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls was released, and although the critical reception was mixed, the sequel is undoubtedly my personal favorite out of the two.

It feels like Carrey fans have been clamoring to see the actor deliver a comedy performance that is as strong as his roles in 90s hits like Ace Ventura, Dumb & Dumber, The Mask, and Liar Liar. And although we certainly saw a glimpse of the unconventional and outlandish Carrey in Sonic, a third Ace Ventura movie could be all we need to set the world right once again.

There is currently no release date or plot points, but we're hoping it won't be long until more details on the third installment are released.
