Actor was forced to address whether he was wearing a prosthetic penis in Netflix shower scene that shocked viewers
The shower scene in Sex/Life has become one of the most talked-about moments in the series, sparking viral reactions across social media platforms like TikTok. The particular moment that gained attention occurs in the third episode of the show when actor Adam Demos, who plays Brad, appears in a full-frontal scene that has left many viewers curious.
The scene has since raised questions about whether Demos used a prosthetic or if what viewers saw was real. Demos has addressed these inquiries, stating that he did not use a body double for the scene, which has only added to the intrigue.
For anyone unfamiliar with the moment in question, it happens around the 19-minute mark of episode three, and the response from fans has been both widespread and intense. The moment was an unexpected source of internet buzz, and many have been curious about how the production handled the sensitive nature of the scene.
Adam Demos on preparing for the scene
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Adam Demos discussed his comfort level with filming the scene. He emphasized that he knew what he was signing up for when he read the script, saying, "you read the script and know what you're getting yourself into from the start, so I don't think you would sign on to a show after reading the scripts and then say no last minute."
Demos further explained the importance of having an intimacy coordinator on set, ensuring that everyone involved was comfortable with the scene.
"We would have an intimacy coordinator and everyone would speak about it and their comfort levels. You would rehearse it so much that by the time you did it, it was a lot more comfortable than you'd assume," he added.
Demos also mentioned how they rehearsed even the smallest details, including hand movements and breathing. "In sex scenes, the breathing is an emotional thing, so you're discussing that journey, but then you're also discussing each individual's comfort level."
Is the shower scene real or prosthetic?
While fans continue to debate whether Demos' full-frontal appearance was achieved using special effects, showrunner Stacy Rukeyser has provided some clarity on the matter. She told Collider that the scene was integral to showing Cooper's obsession with his wife’s ex-boyfriend. "It was important to show how down the rabbit hole obsessed he has gotten, that he is now stalking his wife’s ex-boyfriend. It’s all internal, there’s no dialogue."
Rukeyser also addressed the size of the moment, responding to common questions about whether the penis was real or prosthetic. "No. That’s not a body double. I mean, people usually ask is it real or is it a prosthetic? I can tell you what Adam Demos says about it which is, a gentleman never tells. So, we are leaving that up to the viewer’s imagination."
A member of the prosthetics team did later confirm that the scene featured a prosthesis, but as Rukeyser suggested, it’s ultimately up to the audience to decide for themselves.
As viewers continue to discuss the scene and its impact on the show, one thing is clear: Sex/Life has sparked conversations, not just for its plot, but for the bold choices made by its actors and creators.
