Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been renewed for an eighth season by NBC, Variety reports. The critically acclaimed series is currently in its sixth season, and the seventh is due to begin airing in February of 2020.

The award-winning comedy, which premiered in 2013, stars former SNL cast member Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews and Melissa Fumero.

In February, the cast and crew were told that there would be a seventh season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Check out their priceless reaction:

Created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the show has garnered a very dedicated fanbase since the pilot.

But could forget that this was the show which, in 2018, was mere moments away from being snatched from devoted viewers only to be picked up by NBC - within 24 hours of being dropped by FOX. So lucrative was the series that networks were willing to pay huge amounts in order to secure the rights for the show.

The official Twitter account announced the upcoming eight season on Twitter, writing: "Good things come to those who w8. The #Brooklyn99 squad will be coming back for Season 8 on NBC! [sic]"

"OH MY GOD WHAY IM CRYING," wrote another, while a third agreed, writing: "THIS JUST TURNED MY DAY AROUND THANK YOU NBC!!!"

And it's not just the fans who have responded enthusiastically to the news. Joe Lo Truglio, who plays Charles Boyle, told fans on Twitter: "We’re very excited to be coming back for you guys. We can’t wait to get back here, thank you guys."
