The trailer for the upcoming season of Dexter has dropped, and it's safe to say fans can't quite contain their excitement.
The drama's new series is set to air on Showtime later this year, and will see Michael C. Hall returning to play the serial-killer hunter Dexter Morgan.
As fans of the original show will remember, the series ended in its eighth season back in 2013 with the eponymous character fleeing Miami to live under an alias.
Take a look at the trailer for the upcoming revival season in the video below:The trailer begins with Dexter sitting on a couch while talking to a therapist about his feelings, before transitioning into a montage showing that he has opened a firearms/hunting store in a small northern US town.
However, we see that our main character is still struggling with his murderous urges and that his dark and bloody past may still be haunting him.
On social media, a number of fans have since reacted to the footage:
Clyde Phillips, who served as showrunner from seasons one to four, ending his tenure with the legendary Trinity Killer storyline, will be returning to helm the revival.
Philips opened up about the upcoming series in an interview during the show's Comic-Con@Home panel over the weekend. Per NME, he stated: "One of the things that Michael insisted on, and he was completely right, was that this not be Dexter season nine.
"This is not the next moment after the lumberjack moment. We pick up with Dexter in another place, in another world, actually, as far away from Miami as possible."
Meanwhile, Hall himself acknowledged the lackluster fan reception to the eighth season and its finale and promised that the new show will feature a different tone and flavor to past installments.
Hall said: "Let’s be real: people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there’s always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling.
"I include myself in the group of people that wondered: 'What the hell happened to that guy?' So I'm excited to step back into it. I've never had that experience of playing a character this many years on."
Dexter: New Blood will premiere on November 7, 2021, on Showtime.
