Ever since Sean Bean's head got savagely chopped off in the first season of Game of Thrones, we've known that we cannot, under any circumstances, trust the writers.

But, while we knew they were tricksy, never in our wildest dreams did we imagine they could have Daenerys Targaryen burn thousands of innocent townspeople to a crisp without even blinking.

But, say what you will about the fifth episode of season eight - and people will, because they freaking hate it - you can't say Emilia Clarke didn't warn you!

In a 2018 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress revealed her true feelings about the last series of the hit HBO show when she was asked if she was happy with how things ended.

Speaking at the HBO Emmy Party, she paused, gave a tiny sarcastic giggle and said "Best season ever," before looking down the camera in mock pain.

Of course, fans weren't to know that her answer meant the Mother of Dragons lost it and became a mass murderer in the penultimate episode - but nonetheless, we should have definitely gathered that her reaction spelled trouble for the formerly beloved queen.

However, the 32-year-old star isn't actually the only Game of Thrones actor who attempted to warn us. In fact, Peter Dinklage's dead-behind-the-eyes response as to how he felt about the show's ending in this 2018 interview pretty much sums the whole thing up.

At The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Stop MS fundraising appeal in London last night, Emilia opened up about how difficult it was for her to keep the plot twist secret, given that she received the script two years before the episode aired.

"People have always come up to me and told me how much they love Daenerys," she said. "And two years ago I got the script for this series and knew what was going to happen to her. Every time someone would come up to me and say, 'I love her!' inside, I was thinking, 'Well you’re not going to love her for long!'"

She added: "It was so hard to keep it a secret. I would just nod and smile, and that’s why I had this sort of furrowed-eyebrow expression a lot of the time. My eyebrows would sort of curl up."

As previously stated, Daenerys' downfall wasn't supported by many fans, with almost one million people signing a petition to have the last series remade.

Clarke refused to be drawn into the controversy though, saying: "The response in general to this series has been pretty overwhelming. It’s been an incredible privilege to be part of."

This is the trailer for tomorrow's final ever episode. Do you think it'll be the pay off the fans deserve?

In addition, she revealed where she'd be on Sunday night when the final episode hit screens, saying: "I’ve hired out a room to host a screening and there's more than 40 people coming. We’ve had to get a load of bean bags in for the front row as so many people want to come."

Let's hope fans enjoy the last ever episode more than the fifth - but with Emilia's reaction in that footage, we seriously doubt it.
