If you were still somehow under the illusion that Game of Thrones could end happily, last night's episode really put you in your place. Finally, what we suspected all along happened and Daenerys Targaryen went full on Mad King. Ahem, we should probably say 'Mad Queen' by this stage - the Mother of Dragons has certainly earned that title.
But, as utterly jaw-dropping as the penultimate offering was, it didn't please everyone. No, in fact, some (former) fans were naming episode five of season eight the straw that broke the camel's back: the episode that ruined Game of Thrones forever for them.
Now, take a deep breath and let's take a look at the mix of emotions going on here...
Watch the trailer for the final Game of Thrones episode ever here: Let's start with the good: some people absolutely loved the fact that Game of Thrones had finally sent Dany off the deep end However, others proclaimed the HBO show was destroyed, along with all of the innocent townspeople in King's Landing who burnt in the Mad Queen's fire Many viewers were concerned for the ever-honourable Jon Snow, who came to the brutal realisation that he'd put his faith in the wrong leader last night Meanwhile, other fans were too busy steaming at Cersei and Jamie's pathetic death by debris to care Or, on the other hand, wowing at The Hound and The Mountain's epic sibling fight to the death Other fans were just stunned and didn't know what to feel All in all, there was a lot to process and if we were in Westeros, we'd be riding on out there on that white horse Ultimately, whether you liked the episode or not, you have to feel for the people who'd taken a leap of faith in the earlier seasons. Absolutely gutted. Will the Mad Queen be destroyed in the final ever episode? We'll be on the edge of our seats until then.
