Harry Potter stars return in new trailer for the hotly-anticipated reunion

Harry Potter fans, rejoice!

Fans have been waiting decades for a reunion, and the day has finally come. Return to Hogwarts is due to air on HBO Max and will see stars return to mark the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

The first teaser trailer was shared to the official Wizarding World account, and sees a slew of iconic Harry Potter stars receive a Hogwarts letter, inviting them to the reunion.

The caption reads: "The invitation you’ve been waiting for has arrived. Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is coming to @hbomax on New Year’s Day."

"Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson join other esteemed cast members across all eight Harry Potter films as they travel back to Hogwarts for the first time to celebrate the anniversary of the franchise’s first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which premiered 20 years ago this year," it continues.

"The retrospective special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time. The highly-anticipated retrospective will be a capstone event of the holiday season, dropping as the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, on HBO Max.''

As well as the three central heroes, fans will see the return of other beloved cast members will also be making an appearance, such as Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, and Ian Hart.

This comes after Emma Watson (aka Hermione Granger) paid a moving tribute to the franchise.

"Harry Potter was my home, my family, my world and Hermione (still is) my favourite fictional character of all time," she wrote on Instagram last month. "I think a journalist once said it was irritating how many times during an interview I mentioned how lucky I was and started counting... BUT I DAMN WELL KNEW!!! And still know.

"I am proud not just of what we as a group contributed as actors to the franchise but also as the children that became young adults that walked that path. I look at my fellow cast members now and I am just so proud of who everyone has become as people," she added.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will premiere on January 1, 2022 on HBO Max.
