HBO confirms 'Game of Thrones' episode run times for the final season

How much are Game of Thrones fans looking forward to the final season? More than Robert Baratheon looks forward to a bottle of wine, more than Arya Stark looks forward to slicing Cersei Lannister's neck, more than Theon Greyjoy looks forward to penile reconstruction surgery, more than Daenerys Targaryen looks forward to look for flirting with Jorah Mormont, then putting him in the friend zone yet again (tee-hee!), more than - oh, you get the idea.

We don't know much about the storylines for the last season, probably because if any actors spill the beans, HBO will rip out their tongues. But in the official trailer for season eight, we get a tantalizing glimpse at what's to come: the astonished Stark children watching dragons fly over Winterfell, the repercussions of 'bastard' Jon Snow learning his royal lineage, and the epic battle between the dead and the living that has been hyping up since the opening scene in the first episode.

When fans found out the last season would be a mere six episodes, they worried that might not be enough of time to wrap up the sprawling storylines - yeah, a lot of characters die on this show, but there's still, like, a million characters. These fears were calmed by reports that each episode would be 'super-sized,' like the giant Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun, similar to the length of a movie. (Also, the chances are slim that Ed Sheerhan will get another distracting cameo!)

On Friday, HBO confirmed the run times for the final episodes. It is known:

So, the first two episodes are fairly short - 54 minutes and 58 minutes - while the last four episodes are are feature-length, clocking in at around 80 minutes. I'm a little disappointed they all aren't 80 minutes, but then again, if it were up to me, every episode would be two hours long. (And Lady Stonehart would definitely be included!)

Well, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss haven't steered us wrong yet, so here's hoping they stick the landing. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly they siad "the fans will not be let down" by the series finale:

"There is no version where everybody says, 'I have to admit, I agree with every other person on the planet that this is the perfect way to do this'—that's an impossible reality that doesn't exist," Weiss said. "I'm hoping for the Breaking Bad [finale] argument where it's like, 'Is that an A or an A+?'"
