It's fair to say that this year's Oscars have been damn exciting, but they've also been as divisive as ever. Ever since the awards ceremony first started, people have been debating the politics behind it and the academy's final decisions. All this can lead to some pretty vicious flame wars on social media, and people can get really riled up about it all.
That's why sometimes it's better to focus on stuff other than the drama, fixating instead on some of the heartwarming celebrity moments. After all, the Oscars are probably the biggest social event of the season for many A-listers. They're like the equivalent of the end-of-the-year prom in Hollywood.
One adorable moment was captured on camera over the weekend, which showed Lady Gaga adjusting Bohemian Rhapsody star (and Best Actor award-winner) Rami Malek's bowtie for him when she noticed that it was off-centre. The two stars were matching each other, with Gaga wearing a classy black dress with black opera gloves. After helping him out with his wardrobe malfunction, she even gave him a little thumbs-up. Awww!
On social media, fans reacted enthusiastically to the kind gesture. For example, one Twitter-user wrote "A great gesture of him, that shows to have a lot of education and respect for other colleagues. It´s what everyone should do," while another person added: "Class never goes out of fashion and as my grandmother always said ... manners maketh the man."
It's no coincidence that fans are suddenly shipping these two celebrities since Lady Gaga is now single again. Just last week she officially split up with her fiancé Christian Carino, confirming weeks of speculation from fans that their relationship had gone south. Fans noticed that Gaga wasn't wearing her engagement ring at the Grammy Awards, and after her song Shallow won the best pop duo or group performance prize, Gaga didn't mention her husband-to-be in her acceptance speech.
A spokesperson representing the singer and actress confirmed the news of her breakup on the evening of Tuesday, February 19 to the Associated Press, stating: "It just didn’t work out. Relationships sometimes end. There’s no long dramatic story."
Gaga herself managed to scoop up an Oscar, winning Best Original Song for her performance in A Star Is Born. In an emotional acceptance speech, she stated: "I've worked hard for a long time and it's not about winning, but what it's about is not giving up. If you have a dream, fight for it. If there's a discipline or a passion, it's not about how many times you get rejected or you fall down or get beaten up, it's about how many times you stand up and are brave and keep on going. Thank you."
