With everyone’s favourite fantasy show, Game of Thrones, set to end in 2019, fans have long been speculating as to how writers are going to see out the eighth and final season. Who's going to die? Who will finally claim the Iron Throne? Are those leaked spoilers actually anything to be believed?
And while some shows write multiple endings so that even their cast are kept guessing, it seems like the makers of GOT aren’t going down that route. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Maisie Williams - or Arya Stark as she is probably better known - revealed that she knows everything, including the fate of all of our favourite characters. Excitingly, it looks like it’s shaping up to be ah-mazing.
While 20-year-old actress wouldn’t reveal what’s actually going to happen - which we’re kind of glad about, but equally grrrrrr, PLEASE - she did say that even she didn’t see it coming: "It’s just surreal to be honest. Like being with this show for so long and then it also having the following that it does, it’s just everyone is waiting for this moment and then you read it and it’s incredible"
Looking super smug about her insider knowledge, Maise revealed that she was actually in bed when she read the script for the first time and joked that she had to lie down afterwards. Adorably though, Williams did reveal that she had told one person exactly what happens - her mom. Admitting that she had been told by bosses not to pass any details on, she ‘fessed up that she’d already sent them to her to read too. Let's hope the producers weren't watching! But who can blame her, really? Most of us can’t keep a secret either.
Maisie did dish the dirt on quite how hectic filming the hit TV show was, divulging that she had to return to filming early because there was so much to get done, adding that it was a “mammoth” job to shoot this season. When asked by Kimmel if that meant she was in all of the episodes, she coyly teased that “no, some of the episodes take a really long time to shoot.” Uh, did Maisie just accidentally slip us a spoiler or is she just playing our bluff!?
While the exact date on which GOT will return hasn't been revealed yet, makers HBO have already said that it will start later than previous years as the eighth season will have just six episodes, less than any of its predecessors. Fear not though, because it doesn’t look like we should be missing out on any action. Casey Bloys, HBO’s programming president, has promised us that it will be worthy of “six one-hour movies” and said that what the team are doing is "monumental”.
So, spoiler or no spoiler, it looks like us fans are just going to have to sit tight and wait for the big reveal. But with filming underway and the climax clearly all decided, it looks like the end really is near - and we cannot wait.
