Man transforms his Roomba into a 'Star Wars' R2 droid

As a huge Star Wars fan myself, I love it anytime I see anything from George Lucas' galaxy far, far away come into our world.

For example, when Disney announced that they were building an entire fully-immersive land dedicated to Star Wars in their parks, well I booked a ticket to Batuu quicker than Han Solo made the Kessel Run in the Millenium Falcon.

But Matthew Scott Hunter may have created the most must-have droid in the galaxy, after he transformed his Roomba into an R2-series astromech unit. However, this droid doesn't repair ships - it cleans floors.

Hunter created the droid out of a trash can and then used some stiff poster board to create its legs. He finished it off with a bunch of random household items for the detailing, and the end result absolutely spits in the face of Anakin Skywalker and his janky C-3PO.

Check out the droid below:

Matthew captioned the video: "I made a few special modifications to my Roomba, because if you're gonna have a robot cleaning your home, why not make it the droid you've always been looking for?"

Hunter branded his custom astromech droid, R9-D9, and I can hear Disney coming from a mile away.

R9-D9 can vacuum, mop, avoid objects, be controlled with a remote, and even put himself on charge when he's low on battery.

Unbelievably, the video was posted back in 2018 and is still dwindling at under 5,000 views at the time of writing - which, I'm sure we'll all agree, is a greater crime than Palpatine delivering Order 66.

One thing's for sure: this IS the droid I'm looking for.

And for more Star Wars nerds building the unthinkable in their garage, check out this guy who has taken his love of a galaxy far, far away to another level by creating a real-life protosaber in his garage.

Now, in case your Star Wars knowledge is lacking, the archaic protosaber is the device that preceded the lightsaber.

To see the jaw-dropping creation of the protosaber for yourself, check out the video below:

Yes, it not only looks and sounds like a lightsaber, but it can actually cut through things! I'll take nine.
