It's been weeks since the live action version of The Little Mermaid was announced and people have had a lot to say on the subject of who would play who. Because, as we all know, Hollywood always takes public opinion into account.

Well, all the casting speculation isn't quite over yet. Rumours are still swirling about who will join Halle Bailey as Ariel, as she is the only confirmed actor. But we're one step closer to knowing the full list as Melissa McCarthy shared her two cents about playing Ursula.

When asked on Jimmy Kimmel what she thought of the idea, the Oscar-nominated actor said: "It seems like it'd be an awfully fun thing to do. I'd love if Disney gave me a little ringy-dingy. We'll see." She even included a big wink. Some speculate that this is her not-so-subtle way of revealing that she's already got the part in the bag.

She continued the interview in a way that really made it seem like the part was already hers. She even added one of the appeals of choosing her to play Ursula:

"I was a nanny when that first came out, and one of the little girls I was watching, we watched it every single night for about a year and a half. No, I'm not kidding at all. I literally was like, 'I know it.' I know it to my core."

While some on social media were excited at the thought of the actress taking on the part, others hoped the decision would reflect casting Halle Bailey. There were several calls to include other people of color or Drag Queens in the re-make. Actor and singer Cynthia Erivo tweeted her thoughts on the continued rumours:

Regardless of who Disney choses for the rest of the cast, let's hope they make the live-action version of The Little Mermaid wonderful and representative.
