Michael C. Hall has admitted that the Dexter finale was "pretty unsatisfying" and is hoping that the series revival will help to remedy fans' disappointment later this year.
However, while the actor has acknowledged why people were disappointed with the season finale of Dexter, he said that he completely understands why his character did what he did.

If you were left particularly disappointed by the show's ending, you can take comfort in the knowledge that the Dexter revival is happening and it will take place ten years after the final scene.
Work is set to begin on the Dexter revival later this year, and it will allow fans to discover what really happened to the serial killer - not just that ridiculous bearded lumberjack ending.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Hall said: "Let's be real: people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there's always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling.
"I include myself in the group of people that wondered, 'What the hell happened to that guy?' So I'm excited to step back into it. I've never had that experience of playing a character this many years on."
After describing fans' disappointment as "warranted", Hall said that some of the criticism is the result of the show's ending being "justifiable".
He explained: "It was justifiable for Dexter to do what he did. I think some of the criticisms were about that, and some of the criticisms weren’t so much about the ‘what’ as they were about the ‘how,’ and those were valid too."
"We certainly do live in an era where the bar is very high as far as the simultaneous surprise, satisfaction, and closure that should go along with a series finale."
The Dexter revival is set to hit screens later in 2021.
News of the Dexter revival was announced in October of last year when Deadline reported that Hall would be stepping back into the serial killer's shoes for the first time since 2013.
The show is returning for a 10-part reboot, and at the time, it was reported that its hopeful airing date will be this fall.
